Reception Sites

I have recently looked at Harrison House, The Metropolitan, Woodbury CC and Water's Edge. I was not thrilled with any of them which was suprising to me since I heard such good things about all of them.

I am getting married in Queens and will have about 125-150 guests. Can anyone make any other suggestions. Also any comments on the above places would be appreciated.

I don't want to pay anymore than $125. You are right about the min. I am willing to have it on a Friday or Saturday night.

Thanks.

My dates are pretty open but I have been looking at March '02. I have a lot of people coming from Europe and it is cheapier to fly in the winter.

Thanks.

Some Suggestions - Valenia

Thanks for the suggestions. I had originally ruled out the Carltun,Carlyle and Milleridge because of the number of people. I will give them a call and see if they will budge on their minimum. I know the milleridge can split their room but I didn't like that. You can hear the music of the party next door.

I'll check out the Crescent and Cold Spring Hills.

Where are you having yours?

This site is very helpful. It allows you to see what homes in your area of interest sold for. It's important to have comparables when you're buying. Most real estate brokers are not very forthcoming with this information. ALWAYS ask for recent comps!

Maybe you are right. I have to see the Metropolitan when it is all setup for a wedding. During the day it looked a little run down. Did you have any problems with valet and parking. It seems like they could easily get backed up.

Lee,

We are staying at the Hilton Hawaiian Village. My FI had great memories of that place when he was a kid, so I thought it might be fun to stay there, besides it's only for a night

Suggestions - Valenia-Milleridge

I am having my reception at the Milleridge this March and I got the whole cottage with no room fee and a minumum of 150 people. It would probably fall right in line with your budget for a Saturday night. Give them a call and tell them you have heard that they will do that. Don't go for the split room at the Milleridge. You'd be sharing the bathroom and foyer and I don't care what they say, you will hear the music from the other party.

I think your dress is wonderful; very elegant. And, I'm sure you're going to make a beautiful bride.

Milleridge Question

Saturday, March 17th. I remember that it was part of a plus to booking an 'off' month. Don't worry....I remember clearly that it didn't apply to another date in April that we were considering. I hope your planning is going well. Don't forget to steer your photog clear of the mural :o)

Good luck. Feel free to ask me questions. I love to help!

Milleridge Question

I love telling people that I am not the only who who 'HATES' the mural ;-)
Luckily or not so luckily (is that english) our guest list is at 274 so I think we will be okay with the 200---

Milleridge Question

That is so funny about the fire extinguisher-- i am surprised I didnt notice or my FMIL for that matter-- she had issues and still does about the fact that whoever sits to the right of the fireplace will have a view of the kitchen--- out of control and of course my FI family is sitting on that side !!! totally coincidental--actually I wanted my family near the atrium just because it seems like the nicer side ;-)

Milleridge Question

Yes, the bigger things, booking the vendors, was easier than all the details. I think between now and March 17th it will be all consuming. But it is one thing after another and I am trying not to be overwhelmed by just focusing on the thing in front of me at that moment. Of course, life happens at the same time and work and all that so keep trying to enjoy yourself.
A lot of loose ends fell into place this week. We booked limos, made a flower appt., arranged flights for my nephew, finished the invites. They are going out this weekend. They look so nice.

Milleridge Question

I didn't think of THAT! Actually, all along I envisioned my family on the atrium side too. Truthfully, people don't tend to notice that stuff that much unless it is glaringly noisy or crowded. I just went to my MOH's wedding this weekend and I didn't notice which direction the food service came from. I did notice that her fireplace didn't require the extinguisher right in front. What are you doing about smoking? I think Milleridge suggested to us that we allow smoking in the atruim during the reception. I definitely don't want it in the main room.

Anyway, I hope this is helpful. I bought my dress in early September 2000 and I am getting married this year on Sept. 22, 2001...I can't wait! Good luck!!!

Milleridge Question

Please join the party...we are all getting married one after the other there..I'll definitely report back EVERYTHING to you afterwards.

I am not changing the centerpieces, staying with the 1/2 dozen white roses. I have seen them and they do look nice. They also put voltives on the tables and it looked pretty. Just my personal choice.

Milleridge Q's - Helen

We went out a few times. I purposely brought the payments in to see the place again and each time I saw something new. If you go on a Saturday late morning, chances are they will be setting up for a wedding. That's how I saw the centerpieces with the 1/2 dozen. If you aren't inclined to upgrade, they really don't look cheesy at all. The cost to upgrade is not in our budget.
The tulle around the columns that was mentioned sounds really pretty. Call their on site florist if you want to see pics of that and check out the cost.

We upgraded the flowers--just a personal choice-- I wanted a ring of roses with a candle in the middle--the florist was great to work with and we actually designed our centerpiece together--which was a great experience--I have pictures if anyone is interested---

As for the candles on the mantle I never even thought of that-- did you guys see that for another wedding? what kind of candles--how big? how many? that kind of thing---

Your centerpieces sound so pretty.

The candles: I got so far about 8 or 9 candles of different sizes but large enough to burn for that time frame without getting really burned down. If you do this, don't forget to get the holders so the wax doesn't drip on the mantle otherwise they would probably not let you use them or insist you go get some there and of course, who needs another trip in the last week. I got some inexpensive smaller plates to put them on. They were $1 or so at the 99 cent store. No one will even see them up there (the holders or plates) so it's not worth paying a lot. I got pillars, the big round ones with 3 wicks, a rectangular one with 4 wicks, a variety. Also, don't get very high ones because their ventilation system will keep blowing the flame out. Glad to pass the info along :o)
