Re: recieving line
I personally am not having a recieving line for just this reason. We have a short period of time between the church and reception and we HAVE to take pics in between the two places. If we try to do a recieving line its going to take 15 - 20 minutes out of the time allotted for pictures.
If you visit the tables during the reception and say hi to everyone then, you dont really need a receiving line.

we are not doing a receiving line only b/c of time restraints, b/c of our want to be at our Ch we will make our rounds during that time and for a short amount of time at the recep. if there are people we didnt get to say hi to etc.

This is exactly what we're planning on doing.

Re: recieving line
We have an 11:00 ceremony also. Our CH was supposed to start at 1:00, but I got them to push it to 1:30 (after many phone calls from my dad). I am only doing a ceremony and not a full mass though. I am planning on doing a receiving line because I just feel like we should.

Re: recieving line
we're not sure yet, but we probably won't. We're having a ceremony, w/a full mass starting at 4. so that means we won't get out of church till 5/5:15, assuming everything/everyone is running on time. Then our cocktail hour starts at 6:30, reception at 7:30. So if we did a receiving line we wouldn't leave the church till 5:45 and not get to the hall till a little after 6. So after writing this, i think we will probably skip the receiving line go do pics at the RH and then go to the CH if we can. if not, we're doing table rounds, which i'm not really looking forward to, but i know we need to greet our guests.

Re: recieving line
ours is not a full mass just a ceremony which is about half an hour... but u figure if there are a lot of people a recieving line is gonna take a good 20 min and then if there is traffic... i just want to make sure i have time for my pictures .. hell i'm paying for them and they will be all i have left... ughh why did i do this to myself time wise... and i cant push the Cocktail hour back cause there is a LIW bride right behind me so no luck there and no luck with the church time.. we were allowed 15 min early if there isnt a funeral
if ur not having the recieving line though are u just walking out or making an announcement of thanks or what

Re: recieving line
Nope... the ceremony and reception is all in the same place. Plus, we're having about 250 people. If we do a recieving line then the people towards the end of the line might miss cocktail hour. We'll just make our rounds to tables. We're also going to Cocktail hour to say hello to everyone. Need to enjoy some drinks and dancing... no time to waste standing around LOL

When your in your reception hall after cocktail hour just start to go around to the tables saying hi to everyone. I plan on starting after the 1st course then then picking it up again when everyone is eating their salad. That's the part of the wedding that I always skip so I should have some time for that.

Re: recieving line
luckily we wont have too many tables becuase our tables fit up to 14 people sooo... with about 16 tables it shouldt take too long to greet and thank all of our guests... but what about those that dont come to the reception and only come to the church

Re: recieving line
we had almost the EXACT same problem. We booked the hall before the church and decided on a 1:00 CH time. We were then trying to figure out ceremony time into that. We originally started with 10:30 ceremony time with a ceremony only ( 1/2 hour). Then I realized that there are particular people (my students and some friends of mine that wanted to come to just the ceremony not the reception) that I would really like to see and it would be rude not to thank them for coming. So we discussed in great length and finally decided on a 10:00 ceremony instead. We also have a half hour drive to the reception hall from our church too. So this is our breakdown:
10:00 - 10:30 ceremony 10:30 - 10:50 recieving line 10:50 - 11:20 retake picture (no pictures are allowed during the ceremony) 11:25 - 11:55 (approx) travel to RH 12:00 - 1:00 pictures at RH 1:00 Cocktail Hour
HTH!!!

Re: recieving line
I dont think we are doing the receiving line bc we are too are crunched for time!!!!!
you have to expect that the church will not start on time, then by the time the ppl actually get out of the church, then pics inside if you want them, then traffic on the way to the hall,
if you dont have that much time in between, then i say no receiving line........

Re: recieving line
I'm amazed that the poll is literally split down the middle. I would have thought waaay more people were doing receiving lines. I'm glad to see that it seems to be very 'normal' to skip them....I got a lot fo cr@p about it from the fam originally
