Re: recommend ...

make sure you get one of the big 3 -

nikon
olympus
canon

they are the companies who focus SOLELY on photography and all of their research goes into cameras, lenses, etc...

My next 'minor' camera (and by minor, i mean a camera that costs less than a grand) will be a Nikon Coolpix - i've read wonderful things about them!

I have an Olympus

I'd kill to have a Nikon though, but they are really pricey

I love mine too, but its a little outdated at this point. It's over 2 yrs old and is only 6 megapixels. I've noticed its getting slower and slower

ooh, really? I was told to stay away from the nikon coolpix. Nikon (from what I've heard) is great for professional level camera...but not so much on the everyday digital...

I bought a fuji finepix and its AMAZING. Love, love, love this camera. And CHEAP!

I'm looking for a new camera too...

I have the Sony Cybershot and loved it at first, it was my baby, but I do think there's better cameras out there..but it was good for the money and did take great pics

I've heard great things about the Canon Powershot lately..

A little pricey but the best, I swear the best!

Canon PowerShot SD850 IS 8.0 MP Digital Elph Camera

Actually all the Elph models are very well reviewed.

on Amazon.com

Oh its especially good if you don't want to mess with any buttons, it literally works like a pro out of the box.

Advnaced feature can be found deeper in menus but they are easy to get to.

It can detect faces, focus on several targets, has stability control, we were driving 60mph and taking still pics. it was amazing.

This camera makes things look better than they are.

Re: recommend ...

i would recommend a canon elph for a smaller camera and actually would not recommend a nikon coolpix to anyone...i have had 2 and both broke after only a few months after one drop on the floor! my first one was a cheaper one about $200 so i figured oh well it was cheap but the second one i had was about $400! nikon has great slr cameras but i don't know what's up coolpix...i had an elph that lasted forever and now i just have canon slr but it's too big to carry around most of the time...

Canon and olympus are supposed to be excellent. I have a sony cybershot, it's cute but the pics could be better.
