I got the knife set of my dreams..........
KitchenAid 14 piece stainless steel cutlery set
OMG...I am loving it!!! Got it on Sunday and now I officially feel like the next FoodNetwork Star!!!!

ETA: I love it because the knives are heavy enough to know I am holding something that can hurt me...but...they have a nice manual in the box that walks you through what each knife is used for and WHY. And, they honestly (and it's probably silly but) they make out apartment kitchen look really nice. The black base with the stainless steel knives are a neat and clean addition to our counter top!

Re: Recommend Your Cutlery

Wusthof!! The easiest to sharpen-great weight. Really reliable company. Comparable to Henkels-they're actually made in the same town in Germany. They are good too-I just find that Wusthof knives have a nicer curve and so they rock back and forth a little better.

If you're interested in trying out Asian knives- I my Shun knife! Asian knives hold their edge longer but it's harder to sharpen them. I think they feel amazing in your hand though. More smooth than the German knives. I have a few of both types and I like them all. Just keep in mind you sharpen differently so you need 2 different sharpeners if you mix and match.

Ok that's my take on knives. I hope that helped. Feel free to ask me any more questions you have.

We were looking at the Calphalon Contemp. / The Katana and also the Henkel four star II... My sister has the Wustoff set and it gives me blisters when I use it so I'm back to the drawing board.

That's a really nice set you have. I don't think it's silly that you think it makes you kitchen look nicer. I do the same thing when I pick out products.

Whereever you are registered-make sure you get to feel the knives. Most of them are locked up in the case-make them let you hold them. Especially if you got blisters from the others. Good luck!

Re: Recommend Your Cutlery

I'm registered at bed bath and beyond and fortunoffs. We went there last night to check them out but I really can't get a feel for them in the mid-air. I'll have to make an extra trip to fortunoffs since they have a cutting board set up for testing the balance and the rocking etc....

I totally agree with this.
I have worked in resturants and understand the feel. It has been a while since I have had top quality cutlery and when we registered we went simply on look (Linens & Things) because they were behind glass and couldn't find anyone to help up. I just happened to love the look and when we took it out of the box and tried them they were even better than expected.

Re: Recommend Your Cutlery

I just got the santuko and utility knife from Pampered Chef. They are warranted for the lifetime. I registered for the rest of the knives. The santuko cuts through meat like butter with it's special pockets/grooves. My FH always talked about it then I used it for a whole roastbeef. wow was all i could say, I was in disbelief. I have arthritis in my thumb and it is hard for me to hold things. It was so easy!

Re: Recommend Your Cutlery

My FMIL told me not to register for knives b/c it's bad luck to give on a wedding and no one will buy it??

I do have one knife I love that I would like to get more of. It's a ceramic blade. Has anyone ever tried one? They're amazing.
