my poor poor doggies they somehow got fleas the poor things! so here's the question...i wanted to get them the Frontline drops...usually works like a charm plus it kills eggs & the fleas themselves for up to 30 days...ANYWAYS, we realized they had them the other night and went to the store immediately...only they didn't have any frontline stuff - only Hartz. I've heard it was good so we just bought that since it was late at night & not much was open... well it's a week later & the poor things are still itching themselves. so now I wanna give them both a flea bath & then buy the Frontline like i originally wanted too...only thing is (and not to gross anyone out) they've been itching themselves so much that they've gotten Raw in some spots. I'm afraid the flea bath stuff is gonna sting them Does anyone a) if it will, or b) have any reccomendations for a gentle flea soap that'll rid them without hurting or stinging them??? I hafta wash them first before i can put the frontline on them(cant put it on top of the other stuff)...i know johnson & johnson is great for dogs but i was thinking the flea bath will do double the job. any help would be appreciated

yea - we decided tomorrow we're bringing them in for a flea bath...while they're gone i'm gonna vacuum like a phsycopath, bomb the apt., then vacuum again & flea powder the carpets... then frontline them when they get home. hopefully everything works out. my poor little guys

I know this is an old thread but just so you know you can use plain blue dawn (dish soap) it is gentle and will kill fleas without chemicals. Dont wet the dogs, coat the entire body in straight dawn, including between the toes up to the face area. For the face i use straight baby shampoo, not as effective but at least its something. Let the soap sit for 5 minutes ( you will have a blue slimy looking doggie lol) Then rinse thoroughly. I use this on young flea infested kittens and it works like a charm. It just has to be repeated twice a week for a couple weeks incase any eggs hatch. Also as you found out Hartz does not work.
To test your house for fleas fill a shallow pan with water with a few drops of dawn mixed in (makes the fleas drown) and at night place this on the floor under a night light. In the morning if you see any fleas on the bottom of the pan you should treat the carpets again.
