Recommendations for GREAT Knives??

I want to register for a really good set of knives. I need steak knives and knives fro cooking. I heard that Henckels are the best but there are so many different sets that I am so confused. TIA

henkles 5 star -- I would go to william sanoma (whostoff) and bb&b (henkles) and actually hold the knives. see what feels comfortable in your hand.

Definitely Henckels.

My mom went with me to register and she said that my dad (the knife expert) recommends the ones with the two little guys on it (twin series).

We registered for the Calphalon Katana block knife set at the recommendation of the guy who helped me at BB&B! He loves cooking so he helped me pick out all this stuff, I had no idea!

Henckels and Wusthof are the best....minus a few of the uber professional ones that really no one should spend that much money for. And actually, most chef's will use Henckels and Wusthof. I've also heard Cutco are good but I don't know personally..

I have the 5 star Henkels and they are excellent. They do require sharpening though so don't think they won't. They need care, don't put them in the dishwasher and don't leave them in the sink. Wash them and wipe them down immediatley. Storing them in a butchers block is recommended.

I also have some additional knives from Wustof including a Santoku knife which I use everytime I cook. You can get a block with extra spaces for additional knives or buy plastic holders that BBB sells. I have the plastic holders and keem them in my drawer.

Re: Recommendations for GREAT Knives??

I am registered for the Shun knives and I just got my Santoku knife.... see description below. I used it the other day, it's amazing!!!

Fully Forged Damascus clad layered knives made in Japan!
The beautiful new line of cutlery represents the latest technology and the finest steel in Damascus clad knives. Shun takes a Carbon Steel (VG-10 steel) blade and layers it with 16 pieces of high carbon stainless steel alloy (SUS 410 + Nickel Steel) to produce an amazing edge that will not rust. The ebony black laminated Pakka Wood handle is very comfortable, made in the traditional 'D' shape with a stainless steel end cap and the traditional ergonomic offset bolster. The handle is designed for maximum comfort during use.
KAI has been Japan's premier blade producer for almost a century, with factories located in Seki City, Japan's famous samurai sword-making center. Blade smiths of Seki have been carrying on the tradition of fine cutlery for more than 700 years. Lifetime warranty!
These knives are the choice of Master Sushi Chefs around the world!

Re: Recommendations for GREAT Knives??

I registered for Wustof knives. Definitely speak with someone from Fortunoff or BB&B in the knife department.

I registered for the 10 piece set and for a set of table knives, fillet knife and a carving knife.

They are kind of expensive, but I was told you will have them forever.
