I couldn't use Apirl anymore because I change my wedding plans last min, so she recommend a friend of hers who lives up state. He agreed to come and he wasn't much more than her. However because I need him early in the day he mentioned he would need to book a hotel for the night before. I thought I would have to set it up and pay for it, but my mother disagrees. What do suggest?

Re: Regarding an Out of Town Officant...
I think you need to. I know when I was originally planning on using an oot vendor they required that I pay for their hotel room I think that is pretty standard though.

I don't think you would be responsible for that. If he agrees to do your wedding then he's agreed to take care of getting himself there. You shouldn't have to pay for a hotel room for him, but you can help him out by recommending 1 or 2 for him to stay at.
I would just book someone local, there are plenty of good officiants on this site. I recommend Fr. Tom all the time!!!

I just got off the phone with Rev. Apirl. The answer is yes, like I thought. My mother just likes being difficult!!!
