Regarding Engagement Party . . .

Since we are having a long engagement, my parents decided to throw us a small engagement party. We are looking for a place charging no more than 40 dollars a head. any suggestions? (nassau/suffolk area)

Also, is the bridal party supposed to be picked and announced by the engagement party? I've been advized by many not to ask members of the bridal party until one year before. Is it okay to have an engagement party before the bridal party is picked?

Thanks!!!

Merry Christmas and Happy Holidays!

Re: Regarding Engagement Party . . .

Will you need liquor besides beer, wine and soda? I tried to keep ours under $40 pp including liquor however there was nothing within that price range. Are you looking for a restaurant, catering hall or somethign smaller like a vfw?

If you are looking for a restaurant you can visit Wickers in Hicksville. They were the cheapest I found in Nassau. Let me know if you need any help. I was going bonkers with this part of the planning and still have a lot of my info from the places we visited.

I think whenever you want to mention who is in your bridal party you can do it. It is your decision on when you are ready to let your BP know. Some people aren't engaged for that long anyway!
Good Luck

Re: Regarding Engagement Party . . .

One of my girlfriends had asked all of her bridal party members at her engagement party -- no one knew beforehand if they were being asked or not -- and it really was a nice touch. On our tables there was an envelope with each of our names on it with a nice poem inside saying how we've been friends for so long, blah blah, and for all these reasons 'we would like you to be in our bridal party' (it was a while ago so I don't remember it that well). Just an idea!

Re: Regarding Engagement Party . . .

I cant be much of a help with places, but for bridal party you can ask whenever you want. We got engaged Sept 13 and I asked 2 BM's that night, and one 2 weeks later over the phone. My maid of honor knew she would be my MOH so I didnt have to ask her, my matron FI and I were going to FL to visit her and her hubby (who is the best man) on the 20th and I asked her when we were visiting.

FI has asked his best man, and one groomsmen. He hasnt asked the other 2 GM's yet.

So whenever you want to ask them I think is fine..

Side note: I am sitting here on LIWeddings replying and a guy i work with walks by and he see's me typing away and he said please tell me you are emailing friends because if there is any work to do can you share because there is nothing to do, so please tell me your keeping busy by emailing friends.

I just laughed and smiled and said yes I am

Re: Regarding Engagement Party . . .

How many people are you having. If you are having 44 or less you can have it @ the Milleridge restaurant for $25.95 for app/salad/choice of 3/ and a sliced dessert. Unlim wine & soda is $7.95pp. They have cute upstairs rooms.

If you are having an engagement party- maybe you can announce your bridal party there?
