a while ago friends of ours were getting married and had a shower. their families are extremely wealthy and the shower was amazing, and the wedding beautiful. We spent 300 for the shower and 1000 for the two of us for the wedding
now its time for my shower..and my mom who is handling everything and would never let me see who bought wat, came to me and said i know you dont wanna know who got you what but you should know that so and so spend $99.
I dont mean to be greedy selfish or rude but i was shocked because these are close family friends and even with the economy the way it is now, i know fully well that their economic situation is just fine..BELIEVE me..
I know this is gonna sound crazy but i just 'expected' more from them. i know i shouldnt do that but i hope im not the only one that feels like that sometimes.
Any opinions?
and sorry this was a bit long

Re: regarding the registry
Maybe what your mom knows about is only part of the gift? See what the shower/wedding brings! If not, don't let it get to you, just focus on the other stuff!

Re: regarding the registry
I kinda agree with you. FH and I are going to a very close family friend wedding in Florida exactly one month before ours. So, we bought flights, hotels rented a car, etc. We're staying for 4 nights, which is a big expense for us right before our wedding. Plus there is still so much i have to get done the weeks before.
Well i got his response card with a big fat NO, saying sorry we have so much going on this year wtih our wedding, I thought ***????? Like i don't have lots going on with mine????!!!!! I think i have decided i'm only putting $50 in his card.

I would just wait and see what happens at the wedding...I totally understand your frustration but as well as you may know these people sometimes people who we think are loaded are really just maxing out credit cards and are in a world of debt.... so you really never know for sure. But totally understand the frustration...you always hope that your generosity will be returned.

I totally agree. Wait it out though, maybe they're also getting you something that isn't on the registry.

Re: regarding the registry
This is happening to me in general, not with one specific person.
I am realizing that I have been wrong thinking that I have been giving people the 'norm' amount. I've obviously been overly generous in the past based on comparisons with the gifts I have recieved so far in this wedding process. Also, the economy though.
I'm not exactly 'complaining' b/c no one has to give anything- but it's been a bit of a wake-up call for me.

I totally understand wait it out until the wedding, even if all else fails take it as a lesson learned.
