Registered before Engagement party?

Registered before Engagement party?

I just wanted to know how many of you were registered when it came time for your engagement party? While I would love things off the registry we also need the money!
Should we register before?
It will probably be within the next month or so.

What you can do is register for a few things, picture frames, china, crystal, cake server, cake topper, etc. That way if people do want to buy you a gift (some will) at least you will get what you want.

We registered before our engagement party, but really just because we were overzealous. But very few people gave us money, most gave us gifts.

we didn't register before because we had no where to put gifts. we wound up getting a lot of money and a bunch of gift cards which was nice. That worked out better for us and we figured that we would wait for gifts at the bridal shower

We just registered for our e-party. Everyone kept asking my mom where we were registered so we figured we might as well if people were going to get us gifts.

we didn't register for the e-party for a few reasons:
1) we were hoping to get cash gifts to help pay for the wedding, which we did.
2) i figure we'll get all that stuff for my shower
3) someone told me it was tacky?? not my opinion, just something someone said.

I don't think that registering for your eparty is tacky- I think including the registry card with the invite pushing it.... Just my opinion. (plus I read tons of etiquette books!)

We didn't register... why?

#1: we too are hoping for monetary gifts to put towards the wedding
#2: we've lived together for a over a year & bought everything new a year ago... plus we are redoing our new house & we bought most of the things we needed ourselves- the rest we don't have colors for yet!
#3: we thought about a small registry but I felt to be fair we had to register for a wide price range so that we could accomodate all sorts of budgets
and #4: we wanted to save the registry for the bridal shower when we really will need house things

My sister registered for hers- a medium sixed registry because she & her FH were moving to DC to live together for the first time so they needed everything-- pots & pans the whole 9. She got her whole registry plus gifts. I'm hoping that people get the drift that we want cash since we didn't register... but I am expecting quite a few Lenox frames!! So far from people not coming to the party- 2 gave monetary, we got a lenox vase, nambe crystal & a set of stainless steel knives.

Whew... sorry so long!

We didn't register prior to the eparty. We asked our guests not to bring gifts....just to come and celebrate :) :) We are registering in the new year though. Can't wait!!!! :)

I didnt have an engagment party due to the fact I got engaged in July 2006 and my wedding is in Nov 2006 but I know the moment I got engaged people were HOUNDING ME to register!
