Registered for Waterford .... free gift?

So we registered for a ton of Waterford things (silver, china, crystal) and through BBB were entitled to a free gift. (Macys does the same thing.) four place mats for every $1500 of stuff. We were entitled to 16 ivory linen placemats....AWESOME.

So fast forward....just got my gift in the mail....they are 'out' of placemats so they sent a replacement gift....a bone china ring holder. I was super psyched about the placemats so i was super bummed at a replacement gift. but then more bummed when i realized that i had already received a ring holder as an engagement gift.

Has this happened to anyone else? I called but got no where, so I guess my real question is if anyone has tried to return it to a store? Were you successful?
