Registering?

Re: Registering?

We registered for the Calphalon set. It's stainless steel, which most people recommended getting. We also registered for some non-stick skillets/omelette pans.

We wanted the All-Clad, but the set was over $500!! If you have a generous aunt or something, go for that!

hmmm, registering is up to you. Our friends register very upscale. For instance, I only wanted to spend are $75, and it was hard, extremely hard. I ended up going in on something with a couple of friends. A vacumm for $500. Now my mother told us we register cheaply because we didn't really go for the best item. We felt rude asking for expensive stuff. Now for pots and pans, they really stretch the spectrum. I figured a family member or my BP will get me the set being is $300. Not sure though. I would register for everything you want. And register in more than one place because I know my family feels funny buying online. Also, I didn't register for much crystal because my aunts don't believe in a registry. They feel it takes away from buying a gift. GRRRR!! Have fun, and let your man carry the scanner, it was the only way he didn't complain!!

We ended up buying our Calphalon Set right after our engagment party...it worked out because it was on a close out sale and we had a Macys gift card. We got a Stainless steel set and are going to register for some non stick pieces too

well, non stick is pretty popular. Honestly, go on consumer reports. I think they did a study on cookware.

Re: Registering?

hi!
I have to give my two cents, i've worked in the cookware bus for years.
I cook alot, and love All Clad Stainless steel. I like it b/c its durable, heats up fast and they offer all of the fry pans in nonstick-which is a must. If you are worried about the price, don't register for the set, just open stock pcs.

Items made of hard anodized (that dark grey looking stuff), are never dishwasher safe, heat up slower but retain the heat longer. They are made with raw aluminum chemically dipped several times to get that anozied edge.

Most of the brands mentioned are very good, here's my rank:
All Clad
Calphalon
Anolon
Circulon
Cuisinart
Feel free to FM any questions..

I got the Simply Calphalon - whatever you choose make sure that you test out to see how heavy they are...some sets have peices that are really heavy and that can be a problem.

We did too!

Re: Registering?

There are many different types of Calphalon. There is Calphalon Stainless (2 kinds of stainless actually), there is non-stick Calphalon and there is the really heavy stuff that I can't lift. We got the Contemporary Stainless (seems only MACY's carries it) with the glass lids. Which ever set you get, you should make sure that the rivets from the handles go through to the inside of the pots - much more sturdy.

Kathleen, what is it with our men and researching bridal stuff. Why can't they just buy the darn pots and not ask questions? You should have seen FH line up every goblet of crystal next to our china pattern. Drove me NUTS!!!

Re: Registering?

we registered for Emerilware stainless cookware. It's made by All Clad and a fraction of the cost.

we tried a Calphalon non stick omelet pan and had to throw it out after 1 use. so that turned us off on that brand.

ETA: we have a set of non stick which we're keeping. this is to supplement what we already have.
