My wedding is 23 mths away and I was going to wait to register until Fall 2006 - but, a lot of ppl. are asking me when I'm going to register so they can get me e-gifts. Do you think it's silly to register this early? I'm just concerned about items being discontinued.

Re: Registering
I started to but as of right now only have 2 things on my list. You can always register and if they don't get you stuff change the items if you want. They give you a code so you can do it online

Re: Registering
I'm having this dilemma as well. I think what my FI and I decided to do is to choose one store and only register for the bare neccesities since we're setting up a new house from scratch: towels, vacuum, toaster, etc. We're not having an e-party, so someone has already sent us a check since they know we're not having one. I think it's nice to give people a few options if they insist they want to get you something. Worse case if something gets discontinued, you change your list and add something else. Most places have online capabilities of even adding/removing items without even having to go into the store! I think this is also a good time to do it since the holidays are coming up and instead of my FI and I each getting separate presents, our families will want to give us joint gifts they know we'll need for our house. Do I make sense or is is just too early in the morning?

Re: Registering
My mom pretty much made us register before the e party and while we were there we put alot of stuff on the list. This was about 6 months ago. I have a year to go and I have had to update the registry more times than I can say because of discontinued items.
Maybe you can register for small things like vases, candlesticks, frames, etc. That way if someone wants to get you a gift they can pick something like that and later when you are closer put the bigger items on.

Re: Registering
Hey - I had the same dilemma - We got engaged the end of July and arent getting married until June 2007 - but since we were having an engagement party a lot of people wanted to know where we were registered. I registered for my fine china and wedding frame, cake cutter etc. Then I went to Williams Sonoma and registered for holiday items. I plan on doing bedding, houseware, everyday china, etc. after the holidays

Same problem here. We are having an engagement party so everyone has been bugging us about registering. We decided to register at Fortunoff for a few items -- our crystal, some frames, candlesticks, and a few other 'gift-type' items.
Don't feel pressure that you absolutely must complete your entire registry just because people are asking.

Re: Registering
I was bugged right after my engagement I gave in and registered and got quite a few items off my registry from friends and family as engagement gifts (I didn't have a party). I think it's a good idea, you can always update it on line if you change your mind on any items.

Re: Registering
I've registered already at Target. I'm not having an engagement party and I'm getting 'Where are you registered?' so I decided to do it.

Re: Registering
I was bugged to register before my eparty, which was in July.....we didn't do it, and we didn't receive any TERRIBLE gifts at all!
We're going to register next fall --- maybe even August, but only b/c FH is a teacher and in grad school, and we'd have to go when he's not swamped!
I think 1 yr in advance is the norm for registering. (and sending save the dates, too!)

Re: Registering
I didn't register before the e-party. For 2 reasons 1) We hadn't set a wedding date yet. They as you thins so they can post it on their website. I didn't want to confuse anyone. 2) I hope I don't get blasted for this but I really wanted money. I thought that would help us more with the wedding. And it will. We did get a few actual presents but the money we did receive will be a huge help.
I did register as soon as we choose a date and booked the hall. We only registed for like 10 things (cookware, toaster, microware, etc.) thingsa that do not get discontinued as quickly as other items. My family and FI's family will buy us these things for birthdays and Christmas. That's why we registered so early.

Re: Registering
I hear you on the $$ part - but I have some co-workers who have told me they want to buy gifts. So, I know they'll buy me little things off my registry opposed to $$ gifts - but I hear ya!

Re: Registering
We are having a e-party so we were pretty much forced to register too. I registered for a few things and plan to register for the rest in another year. Same here though, we would much rather have the money.

I totally hear you!! My fiance and I need the money to help us pay for the wedding. I would rather wait and register in January for items.

Re: Registering
We haven't registered yet but
I was engaged in the past, we had an engagement party which was 2 year prior to our date (or what was suppose to be our wedding date) what we did was register for things that we knew we needed but didn't care if it got discontinued like towels, plain sheets, everyday dishes, pasta set, and different kitchen gadgets. When it had gotten closer to the date we were going to register our formal dinner wear, and stuff like that.
