FH and I love food, and to cook and eat. so registering for a formal china pattern isn't really us. FH also has china from his grandmother. We were thinking of registering for unconventional plates instead. something along the lines of these:
not exactly the same but something like that. I think we'd use them more than the china, do you think anyone would get 'put off' from buying them as a gift?

Re: Registering
Those are awesome! My grandmother gave me her china as well so FH and I are registering for everyday plates and flatware only. That way $1000 isnt being wasted on something we really wont use and we will receieve things that we really need.

We did the same thing - china is not our style at all. You have to register for what you like!

Re: Registering
Thats how i feel, i think we'd be wasting our guests money and the china would just sit in the cabinets.

I like them! I'm going to get a reasonably priced box set of china - where you buy everything all together - and then get fun different plates for entertaining.

Re: Registering
although i also can't imagine using good china, i think i'd regret not registering for it. a few years from now when/if you have a family and you host holidays you might wish you had some nice pieces to use! plus it's not something you're ever going to want to pay for yourself, so you might as well have others buy it for you
plus i think good china shouldn't be saved just for holidays, you only live once! if you have good plates/napkins/stemware bring it out more often.

FH has china from his grandmother, we just have to see the condition of it. so we'd have those.
