registering?

registering?

I went to a registry event yesterday at Crate & Barrel. I've never actually been to one of their stores before and I was really shocked at how much great stuff they have! Even furniture!!! My friend loves that store and wanted to start her registry, so I tagged along. She's getting married in Oct of 2011 and they didn't have the 2011 year ready yet, so she had to put in a fake date. The saleslady said they recommend registering about 6 months before your wedding, but I've read that you can register whenever bc its good for ppl to get you stuff for your engagement and w/e.

So, it got me wondering....when do you ladies plan on registering and what stores?

<---- already registered!

right after we got engaged my mom and i went to a bridal show...saw it in the paper-such a last minute thing...i won a nice gc from fortunoff (RIP )the catch was you had to start your registry...so with a few bday's coming up and being a bit low on cash, and it was our fav store we said why not...so we started there...then they closed ....so we moved most everything to bbb....also have stuff at macys, and williams and sonoma...

i have loved the service at all but macys....ugh! and they dont have everyhting online that they do at the store....so you kind of have to go in....they are not friendly and they are SUPER nosy! this is the one at roosevelt field....

Re: registering?

I already set up my registeries online (like got our information in there and connected them to Weddingchannel.com so whoever buys online, there will be a donation made to American Cancer Society).

I have some stuff on there that I saw as I was browsing online but I know that a lot of stuff won't be available by the time the wedding shower rolls around so I will just clean it up as I go along.

I set up registeries at

1) Crate and Barrel (where most of my items will be from)

2) Macys (for my bedding, towels and possibly dinnerware if I don't find something I like at C&B)

3) Williams-Sonoma (for knives and a few other kitchen gadgets)

4) Pottery Barn (don't really know what I would get from here... maybe some accent stuff for the home, but my SIL told me to register there so I listened lol)

I was at one of the C&B registry events last month, and even though their computer there doesn't have 2011 yet, you can change it from home online to your correct date.

We're hoping to do our registries in the next month or so, so that people can shop from them around the holidays. Christmas is only 68 days away!!

We are going to wait to register until about a year before the wedding. We are most likely going to register at Macys and BBB and possibly Pottery Barn.

Re: registering?

I'd register as soon as possible. I am probably going to be a 2010 bride but I don't know yet and i have not registered, but I'm trying to get around to it.

I'm registering at two places.

Macy's for probably the fine china and some items BBB doesnt have and Bed Bath and Beyond for the majority of things. BBB is the most accessible and affordable for most people and they do have a lot of great products.

I'm not registered yet. We will probably go about a year before the wedding (next summer).

I know I want to do BBB

I'm also thinking Macy's and/or William Sonoma?

Re: registering?

I registered the week after we were engaged. My friend who is already married suggested that you should register as soon as u can because for birthdays, xmas ect people can buy the stuff u are going to need. I am only registering at bbb becaue u can get everything there, 20% coupons that are always good, its convient and if u get stuff shipping to u it comes right away. My grandparents have ready bought us some things off the registery

Re: registering?

I just registered at Macys. They actually had everything I really needed: cookware, glasses, china, bedding etc. I didn't need to go anywhere else.

My parents are throwing us an engagement party in january so we needed to register so that the guests can give us gifts!! Though we will most likely get everything at the bridal shower etc.

Also, if you plan on getting china, since it is more expensive, people tend to give you place settings for birthdays, holidays, etc... not just at engagement parties and showers. So registering early for that stuff helps spread out the costs for families and friends. Just a thought!

Def BBB but I'm not sure where else yet.

that is very true! Plus, I think I already know which china I want! yay! Maybe I could just start a registry, and put that on there and see how it goes! Good point - thank you!!

Re: registering?

No problem!!

That's why I started a bit early with the registry.

Also, Macy's has this feature that if you register in the store and then go online, you can 'hide' your registry (so people can't search for you on the Macy's website or get a print out in the store) until you are ready to tell people that you have a registry.

We ended up doing that at first because we were looking around to find the best electrics/cookware/etc and china that we liked and didn't want people buying something that we weren't too sure of yet. So once we were ok with what was on the registry, we made sure to make it 'Public.'

The only thing is: once you make your registry private, you can't go to the store and add things with the registry gun because they can't pull up your file. But I believe you can still add things online. So FH and I just had to keep switching between public and private each time we went to the store. It was annoying.

Re: registering?

Hey! Well i think my mom and moh are going to hold the shower 6 mo prior to the wedding since that's when i'll be in NY during next summer...sooo i would prob have to start registering either in april over my spring break or even earlier like this January. So far i'm thinking Bed, Bath and Beyond and Macy's ?? i've heard good things about both and i like the policies at BBB.

Did already [Have been stalking it LOL]

Macys and Bed Bath and Beyond

Macys is soooooooooo worth doing early

If you have a Macy's card any purchase you make from the day you register to your wedding they give you 10% back on a gift card plus anything anyone buys from your registry you get 5% back on the card too
They also give you a discount on anything left on the registry after the wedding date [Completion program i think it is called]

Definitely all true - and for those of you getting married in the fall, you can enroll in Thanks for Sharing at Macys and you get back ANOTHER percentage of your purchases (meaning, when you buy out your registry after the wedding) on a gift card after the holidays. And then also...have your DH or you open a Macys charge account when you go to buy out your registry after the wedding...that'll be a % off your purchases for doing that. I'm having FH cancel his account from now so that we're in the clear to open him a new one after the wedding.......
