Registering

Registering

OK .... I cannot take the unsolicited opinions from various family members and inmates (oh sorry I mean co-workers). My family wants me to register so they can purchase engagment presents/ birthday/holiday presents for us before the wedding or shower so FH and I said fine we will register for a few things now and do the rest closer to the wedding (2005) ... people at the office are like oh no your taste will change (btw I have very classic /traditional taste) and also my favorite that I am waiting to long to get married (hello are you paying for my wedding?).

So now I am soliciting advise what do the real experts think?

I am also getting married in 05 and we registered almost right away. If my taste hasn't changed in the first 24 years of my life, I'm sure it won't over the next two. You can always adjust your registry if you want anyway. The only thing I would say is wait on things like bedding and what not unless you think someone will buy you the whole set now. Only because those things get discontinued quickly. Good luck!

I registered 2-weeks after getting engaged for the same reason - I am getting married 10/2/2004 so if your 2005 its not too early - have fun - and register at several locations - this way theres a lot to choose from...

Enjoy........

Re: Registering

first off... your not waiting too long... better to be able to afford the wedding than be in major debt and married...

definately register... you dont need to do everything now.. you can leave things like appliances(which models change) closer to the date..more for your shower... but definately register some stuff... otherwise you will receive whatever the people pick out... which may or may not be your taste...

Re: Registering

Ohh I almost forget why I come to this site sometimes and now I remeber to interact with some reasonable people !!!

Sometimes I just cant take the endless opinions from people !!!! I guess I have to stop 2nd guessing myself and do what I want !

Rachel - I know my tase is not changing either - I felt like saying to them what do you think I am putting on the list, like Boy Band bedspreads and reality TV picture books - what is going to change in the wide world of Lennox and Waterford in the next 2 years ??

If you don't like people giving out their opinions, say 'that's a good idea, I'll keep it in mind' and then go about your business! It's your wedding, do what you want (and what your FH wants too LOL) and don't stress over what family or co-workers think you should be doing : )

I agree with everyone else - especially about listening to people's opinions and then doing whatever the hell you want!
I registered pretty soon after getting engaged - but just becuse I love shopping and I couldn't wait to do it! And we had a lot of fun oding it also. We have even gotten a lot of stuff from it already - due mostly to out engagement party last week!
I'd say register now and if you want you can always change it - it's really simple to update over the internet even - I do it all the time!
Good luck and HAVE FUN!!

Re: Registering

Hi
I am also a 2005 Bride and Just got engaged 1 month ago. I am getting ready to register also in a few weeks for the same reason. People want to buy gifts and only want to buy things you like and need. It is such a good idea. Dont worry what other people think. I would rather get things i want or need than have to return things at this stage of the game.

I would make a mini-registry for now just to hush people up. I know they can be annoying but at least when they start asking about what you want you can just hush them up by saying that they can check your registry at so and so. Hope this helps!

And yes, the ladies on here UNDERSTAND EACH OTHER! What a relief that is!

Re: Registering

You don't even HAVE to register for china & crystal now, you could start with appliances and things that really never change.

But if you have picked your china/crystal out, you might as well put that on now too! No reason why you shouldn't if you are sure of what you want. You may want to wait on bedding and towels - not because your tastes will change but just so they don't get a musty smell if you are not using them right away.
