Is it better to register for a cookware set or for individual pots and pans? The set seems so much more economical, but it seems kinda presumptuous to think that one person will buy you the entire set. What do you guys think?

I'd register for the set...someone will get it, especially someone in your immediate family.
I am in the same boat, I want the Rachel Ray pot & knive sets, im not skimping on those!!!

Re: Registering for Cookware
I think it's better to go with a set. I think the individual pieces can be soooo much more expensive. I registered for a cuisinart set (and we ended up getting it)....not cheap, but not too too expensive either, so I guess it just depends.

I felt the same way.... But I ended up going with the set. I was told that expensive items like that are typically purchased by an immediate family member OR by a group of people (like a few coworkers-everyone chips in). HTH

Re: Registering for Cookware
Oh and we are registered at a couple places but we loved Bed Bath & Beyond in Westbury. The woman we met with actually brought a mini-table around with us. As we bought our everyday stuff, she set it up on the table. She even put down a table cloth and napkins to match. So it was nice to see everything set up (all plates, silverware, cup, table cloth, napkins, candles, etc...). She did the same for our good china too. It was really helpful to see it all set up as we did it.

We registered for the set and then added any additonal pieces we liked - usually a close family member will buy you the entire set. worst case scenerio, if no one buys if for you - you can get a discount as long as it is on your registry at some places!

Re: Registering for Cookware
You can do both-some people pool in and get the whole set...
Wanna laugh Jess? I got a beautiful 10 piece Emeril Ware by All Clad set-from earning points by researching on Westlaw!!! Do they still do that? I remember they had a great rewards catalogue and nice home stuff-I know with a journal, you probably have tons of research to do, and its better than not using points or getting something useless!

Re: Registering for Cookware
i agree with the ladies... it wont look presumptious and if someone is looking to drop $500 its better than them having to buy about 85 towels.
Its good for a group of friends, bridal party, cousins etc to all chip in and get something kickass.

Register for it! We did, and I am so excited because my FMIL got it for us (we talked her out of throwing us a RD, and she wanted to do something special off the registry instead).

I'd say register for the set. Someone will buy it or people will chip in to get it for you. Sometimes buying individual pieces can be more costly--the set will give you a good start.

Re: Registering for Cookware
I agree with getting the set. In the end its more economical. We registered for the set and a few separate pieces.
I know that a family member would pick that up. its good to have a range of items on your registry to give people options. I think they have a guide when you register of the price range and how many items between that range you should register for.

Re: Registering for Cookware
I registered for a set and also individual items that were not included in the set, like an egg poaching pan, and an extra 2 qt pot because I use it alot.
I think as long as you have a range of prices on your registry your guests wil be happy.

Re: Registering for Cookware
I did individual pieces cus I wanted certain things from certain brands. And I think Im more likly to get them that way as sets can be more than $500 and I doubt anyone would buy something that expensive for me.
