Are you supposed to register before you're engagement party so that guests can shop from it or is that tacky?

I'm not... I think if you do then people will assume they have to bring a gift. I'm waiting until after my E-party to register.

Re: Registering for engagement party
My immediate family bugged me to register so I did... hopefully people don't feel obligated to buy something. But they wouldn't know unless they searched for my registry so then I assume they are looking into getting a gift.

I wouldn't IMO...we're telling people not to bring gifts. I think it's asking a little much of people (but our guests are mostly OOT so they have to travel to our wedding).
We just want to celebrate with everyone!

Re: Registering for engagement party
We registered and it worked out well for us and the guests. We didn't get things we didn't want and they didn;t have to guess what we wanted. definitly not tacky at all. I don't know anyone who didn't register before having the eparty

Re: Registering for engagement party
Be careful with this one! Traditionally a registry is for the bridal shower. If you register before your engagement and everything goes, what will you do for your shower. Without a registry you will probably get envelopes, we did. However, if you decide you really want one this early on, I would just do china or something classic.
