Registering For Knives

Registering For Knives

Did you register for the whole block set or did you just register for a few knives?

Which brand would you recommend? We're looking at Wusthof, Henckels and Oxo - any opinions on these brands?

Thanks!

My stepfather is a chef and told me to order all knive separately...they are of higher qulity then??? I told him it would be easier for me to just register for the whole set and he flipped out.
I guess this is a big deal!!!!! HA!

We registered for the block set... as well as seperate steak knives and a 2 piece carving set. Henckel's and Wusthof are great, not sure about OXO. But obviously there are different grades and types... It's about personal choice.

This is the set we registered for. We liked the color & the size-not sure how much counter space our apt. will have!

Originally we intended on just registering for the block...but I've been hearing that you really only need 3 knives to start out with and you can build from there - depending on what you use and need.

Oxo was never in the mix until we registered at Crate and Barrel and saw that brand there. I've heard only great things about Wusthof and Henckels...just wanted to see if one was preferred over the other.

I've used both Henckels and OXO knives. I like the Henckels better... one of the OXO blades bent, and the Henckels just seem sharper and sturdier to me.

We got the big block of Henkels knives (it was like 500?) I heard that Wusthof knives are good too.. I love my Henkels though..

My stepfather said starting out, you really only need one good butcher knife and a sharpening stick. and maybe a set of steak knifes. I know he has OXO.

I registered for the block set, but some people have told me that no one will give us the knives because it is bad luck. I really want the knives!!

I have the Henckels Professional S series. Love them! But pretty expensive - around $400 for the block set. Although I say a good set of knives are worth the money since they'll last you a while........

We have Wusthof and love them. When I used to work at a culinary school, my chef co-workers recommended I buy them over Henkels but it might just be personal preference

i dunno much about knives, but i was told henckles are good, and the more lil men it has on it the better they are...(lil men meaning those lil stick figure ppl carved in on them) hope that makes sense

For those who got the block...do you find yourself using all the knives or are there some that aren't necessary?

you made sense Bebalina!

Re: Registering For Knives

In my opinion, you should register for knives seperatly. You should go for the feel of the knife, and some one said that you can build as you go, that you only really need three knives. That is true. I am from the culinary field, and knives are the most important tool in your kitchen. You can register for a block to put the knives in and then get a few really good knives. Even Henkels puts out low end knives, make sure you know the quality of what you are getting, not just a name! Good luck!

Defintely register for Wustof. They are the best! We registered for the block set and also for individual steak knives.

my sister has oxo and i like the nice grip on them...

when looking at knives the better quality is when it says 'Forged'.....

i think some people think knife sets are bad because there are alot of cheaper ones out there... but you can get a good quality one in a set...
