So FH and I went to Macy's in the city today to register. If you're thinking of doing this, all I can say is DON'T DO IT. Run the other way. Go anywhere else!!!
Everyone was extremely rude. When we couldn't find the bar code for our china, I went to ask the consultant for help. She couldn't be bothered to get off her a$$ to help us. So nice!
When we tried to add luggage to our registry, the sales consultant who reluctantly agreed to help us put 3 pieces of luggage on our registry - all in different, clashing shades of green. How lovely!
Then when we were trying to find flatware and wanted to ask the opinion of another sales consultant, she just merely said, 'You're registering? Good luck.' Um, thanks.
And when we asked a man to point us to the everyday plates he just laughed at us. Is that a funny question? I must've missed the joke.
We finally just gave up. When we were leaving, I said to FH that this was the worst experience I've ever had. Our registry consultant happened to be in the elevator with us (I was too steamed to notice!). FH said she saw that it was us, but didn't bother asking what was wrong or how she could help.
Honestly, I'm going out to LI tomorrow to register at Fortunoff's. I'd rather give them our business instead!

I think going to register in the city is tough no matter where you go - Macy's in the city is never good if you need help. I only go if it is at an off hour and I know exactly what I want. You just don't get that same service you would in the suburbs. I personally went and looked at items first when it was quiet during a weekday and then took notes and actually registered online at Macy's - it was soooo much nicer doing it that way I found. So sorry you had such a nightmare.

Re: Registering Horror Today!
I already wrote a letter complaining about my experience. The reason we registered at the Macy's in the city is because we live in the city. Going out to LI is more of a hassel, but I'm going to do that tomorrow for Fortunoff's. We already registered at BBB in the city and our registry consultant was AWESOME!

Re: Registering Horror Today!
Macy's is NOT what it used to be..and especially now during the holidays there is alot of holiday temp employees who can't be bothered... I registered at Bed Bath and Beyond -- and had a GREAT experience.. usually you don't see luggage and alot of other things in the store, but if you go online - there is a TON more stuff than what is in the store.. I added so much from home and I still continue to add stuff to the registry everyday...

Re: Registering Horror Today!
I registered at Macys and had a wonderful experience, everyone was extremely helpful and accomodating. Its the holiday season and unfortunately people tend to get stressed and overwhelemed in the stores.

Re: Registering Horror Today!
We registered in person at Macy's too, in the city. It was very similar to you when we began... no one helped us until finally we were about to leave and someone came over and showed us the scanner. Me and DH live and work in the city so had no choice. We registered for the big stuff in the store (china and stemware... stuff you want to see in person) and then registered for everything else online when we got home.
Macy's in the city employees the LAZIEST people!

Re: Registering Horror Today!
We are city people, but did all wedding related stuff on LI -- people were so much more helpful. We had the best experience at both Macy's and Bed Bath and Beyond near the Walt Whitman mall. I had a horrible experience trying on gowns in Macy's in Manhattan too. Overall, I hate that store, and try to avoid 34th st. in general!
