Registering - items discontinued

Okay what is the secret in knowing when items your registering are being discontinued? I realize I registered early but now i am getting close to the year mark to the date and I wanted to know how to find out when a store is dumping stock before i see the message .

ooh, I know this one! I averted a crisis of this sort. When you register, ask the bridal registry rep if they have any info concerning items possibly being discontinued.

The flatware of my dreams is made by a danish silver company, and I was notified that they intended to cease all sales to the US as of Jan 1, 2007.

There was no way I was going to give up on my flatware! I made a deal with the store where I purchased all the flatware on my credit card, and they agreed to reimburse my card whenever someone bought the flatware off my registry....

so far, everything worked fairly smoothly!

(Love the store we're registered at.... Rudi's pottery in paramus.... great prices, and obviously, rather accommodating!)

Macy's will let you know if something is going to be discontinued. For the most part, certain patterns in bedding come and go- so register when it's close to your date, or when someone wants to buy your bedding.

Unfortunately, Macys is TERRIBLE at doing this. We had 3 or 4 things discontinued at Macys and never found out until people went to purchase them off our registry and got told that they didnt carry those items anymore They ended up 'notifying' us that these items were being discontinued 2 MONTHS after they already were discontinued (and weeks after we were told by guests that they couldnt get them).

Sometimes I think its unavoidable....you may find out after its already discontinued, and then you're just going to have to hope thats its not too close to your shower or wedding

I have gotten letters from Fortunoff's -- which has been very helpful since our silverware was also recently discontinued and we loved it. So we had the oppurtunity to buy it direct from Oneida at a huge discount.

Sometimes I get e- mails from Crate & Barrel. But they also show it on your regisrty by saying an item has 'limited quantity' then it's something being discontinued. Eventually it will say 'no longer available' when there supply of a particular item is gone.

Actually, it's right there on your online Macys registry as soon as the store decides to discontinue something... If you log in regularly to check your list, you'll see right away what is being discontinued.

Same thing with Crate & Barrel.
