Registering...need advice

Registering...need advice

OK so I own a studio. I am running out of space as it is. FMIL keeps telling me to register. I feel there is no need but have feeling a shower is planned. I don't want a shower, I'd rather the girls/women take me out to dinner or we go to AC.

See, I have NO SPACE for anything and I am planning to sell right after wedding (when economy will pick up) and then look for a new place. So not only no space, but no idea what kind of decor...

I suggested to FH that honeymoon thing...but he thinks it's tacky (where you register for hotel etc...).

Ok so now what?

fh and i live in a 1 bdr apt in manhattan so its not very big....we registered for everthing we would want when we eventually get a house...and we will just have one of our parents store most of the stuff at their house until we move.

we didnt really register for much decor since we dont know where we will be living either...just did a lot of the appliances etc.

Its hard...we live in a 1br as well but none of our registry stuff comes to the apartment, it all goes to my parents house on LI. Our kitchen is the size of my closet (not kidding, we don't even have a drawer for silverware) so nothing is coming to this apartment as long as we live here!

I know this is completely the wrong way to look at it but can you register for things (maybe Bloomingdales) and if you get stuff you don't 'need' now, you return, get store credit, and buy back things in a few years when you have the room/need?

I was thinking about waiting on the registry too but then we just started getting engagement gifts that I a) didn't want and b) couldn't return so I thought it was worth it to at least put stuff on a registry that I could take back if I decide its not necessary...

maybe ask your fil's if they would be able to hold on to the gifts until you have room?

When you do move into a bigger you will need ALOT of stuff and it will cost you a fortune. It is an impostition to ask someone to store things for you, but hopefully your in-laws or other family member or friends will be willing to help you out!!! It will be so great to have stuff when you do move someday!!!
If not, I don't think the honeymoon thing is tacky, I loved the idea when i bought something for someone like that, and we are doing it too!

If you don't have a lot of space, I would say to treat yourself to luxury- version replacements of what you already have (higher thread count sheets, thicker towels, upgraded pots, nicer coffee maker, etc.). If your parents CAN stash things in their house for awhile, then I would say to pick out decor-neutral stuff like simple metal or white ceramic serving platters. People are definitely going to want to 'shower' you with good things and it's okay to treat yourself to upgrades. Otherwise, I'm sure you will end up with 40 picture frames!

we live in a 1 bdrm and all of our stuff is being sent to my parents house and it will stay there until we have a house. it really ***** for my parents, but they have the space, and offered so we took them up on it.

Re: Registering...need advice

Thanks for the advice.

My Mother is useless...She lives ALONE in a two bedroom and still ******* I have a small case of vinyl records from when I moved. I told her to throw them out. If I asked about gifts, she's have a heart attack and if it went there, she'd question WHY I am getting what I do (she still makes coffee manually when I gave her two coffee pots). Yes, I have one of those kind of Mothers you only read about or in movies.

Anyways, I will ask FMIL(she is a lot nicer) and also register for new towels and sheets. I need new microwave too....

My building has storage but not responsible for damage and that worries me cuz it's in basement.
