Registry... Am I rude?

Registry... Am I rude?

OK im going to post and run, but I had an argument with one of my BMs this week, so I need other opinions.

So, I REALLY want all my china (like really bad). I have a huge family and we're going to be having a ton of holidays. So, I kept my registry very light.

I'm hoping that instead of getting 7 sets of sheets people will get 3 wine glasses etc. (The pieces are all at different price points).

BM says this is rude and that my registry should be more 'full'.

Thoughts? Thanks for reading in advance if you made it this far!! Merry Christmas!

I dont think it's rude, but i dont think it's wise either. If people cant afford or dont want to purchase china or stemware and there's nothing on the registry to buy because you kept it so light they're going to just buy you things off your registry and then you'll have to deal with duplicates and returns for things you never wanted

You can always put less expensive items on there, and if you decide you don't want them, return them in exchange for another piece of china.

I don't think that it's rude per se, but people really do just think in terms of dollars and cents. If all the options are at relatively higher price points, expect not to receive much off your registry, if anything. It may cause you more hassle in the long run, to return duplicates or get things you really don't want.

I agree with the idea of putting lower priced items on and then exchanging towards the china, or just use your completion discounts toward the china. We put china on our registry, actually the saleswoman put the ENTIRE collection on. We took most of the extraneous pieces off, and just kept a few. If someone buys it for us, cool, if not, we can always use our completion to maybe buy just one or two sets for display, because we most likely will never use it.

Well, how much is the stemware and the items that are on the registry? You cant assume that everyone has enough money to afford those items. You should add other items that cost less for people who want to give you a gift, but cant afford the other expensive gifts. I know you really want your china....but it can be expensive for some people.

I don't think it's rude but I would HATE to buy someone just a few glasses off their registry and go to a shower. Even though I know what I spend and the bride would know, I personally would feel like others would think I was cheap in giving a gift like that. Just my opinion though, I'm sure others will disagree.

i agree with everyone. You're not rude, but it doesn't really make sense to do what you're doing. As the bridesmaid, and never the bride, I would hate to only get parts of a China set for a bride. Mix it up... there HAS to be some other stuff that you need. And like some of the other girls said... if you dont REALLY need it, return it, and then use that money to buy the China yourself.

I wouldn't want to put my guests in a corner like that because they're just gonna wind up buying you something not on the registry at all and then nobody's happy.

Are a lot of people who are going to your shower close to each other? Then maybe if they don't want to spend a lot they can chip in for things. Also, if you aren't putting much on people just might go and pick out stuff for you on your own. I see what you are saying and I did not go too crazy with lots of extra stuff either, but I did put the other stuff.

I don't think that is rude at all.

The Point of a registry is to let people know the things you WANT and NEED.

You can put whatever you want or need on it and if keeping light is what you want then fine!

I definitely had the same mind set as you in the beginning and kept my registry 'light'. HOWEVER, I had to quickly change that when almost everything I had registered for was gone by the first week!!!

You have to offer a little variety and the best part of a registry is that you will wind up returning A TON of stuff and then you will have all that credit to buy what you REALLY want--your china!!!

I don't think it's rude, your family can get together and buy your whole set of glasses. You know what they cost so you know theyre not being cheap. I registered only for the things I really need and I'm not adding extra things according to who can buy what, if they don't want to buy what is on my registry, they can give me a gift card.
