Can someone tell me the difference between a quilt and a duvet cover? Is it necessary to get both or can I just get what I like?

a duvet cover goes over a comforter. Like a pillow sham goes over a pillow. so if you have a down comforter that you want to protect, or a comforter that you don't like that pattern of, you can buy a duvet cover and the comforter goes inside it.
