registry-blah blah blah

so we told my fmil that we registerd and that it was great.
she goes off to say how she loves to buy people gifts that they didnt register for
since i had a few in me i said 'why would you do that, whats the point of having a registry.
fh said that i was being rude and cocky. fine no problem.
so i asked fh how he feels about getting gifts from his aunt that he doesnt need. what does he do with them? HE LEAVES THEM IN A BOX AND NEVER USES THEM!!!
so i asked fmil how her daughter gets too.
SILENCE!!!
i told them both, you know damn well your sis/daughter would complain her butt of if she wasted her time to register only to have to go back to the store to do a exchange.
they agreed i was right.

keep in mind i wasnt looking for them to agree with me. i was just surprised that they thought i was being rude. whatever. its all over and good

btw, fmil said she will only get us things off our registry.YEAH!!!!!!!

I dont understand why people wouldn't buy things off your registry - it makes it easier as a gift buyer! What is the point! I got a couple of these at my engagement party and asked my mom 'why'...she said, 'some people just don't like following directions'

that bothers me too... its not a piece of cake to register, the fact that people ignore it is annoying... and how is that being cocky? lol

i guess they thought it was cocky because if someone goes out of there way to buy you a gift you should be happy/grateful

i have been to so many baby and bridal showers and i have always bought off the registry

ugh that is so annoying....like isnt that the whole point of the registry?!!!

my fmil insisted we register before the e-party but i was totally against. finally to make her happy we started a registry online and added like 5-6 things just 'in case'. now she told me she has been buying me shower gifts from macys (which is not where i started that mini registry). I was like 'why would u buy us stuff before you register bc ill probably end up getting 2 and then having to return one??' she was just like 'oh well'...it doesnt make sense esp when u were so adamant on us registering in the first place!

these fmils are crazy

Why would you do anything but go off the registry? They are there to make it easier for both parties. Sometimes I think they just make up stuff to piss people off!

I just registered, too, so I haven't had to deal with this personally, yet. BUT, in college I worked int the BBB bridal registry, and people would come in and decide THEY didn't like what the couple registered for, and reduse to buy from the registry (despite my trying to dissuade them). Some people hated to buy from the registry because they didn't want the couple to know how much they spend, and we'd also get older relatives who would decide the couple didn't *need* this, but they *did* need that. I just don't get it!
