With all the financial problems we're all facing, I've been thinking about my registry. I just 'downgraded' things like sheets (thread counts) and towels to make them more affordable. Does anyone else feel guilty about registering for expensive items?
My hope is that people will go in together for things, but am I asking too much? I do have a good variety on there, but still making me worry...
Advice? Thoughts?

Re: Registry GUILT
I know how you're feeling. I think many people are feeling guilty this is economy. But the more you add to your registry, the more of a variety for people to choose from. Its not like you're giving them a suggested amount to spend. They can opt to give you gift cards or buy less expensive items. Its nice of you to think of them, but right now, its about you and your FH and what you want in your place together. The things you register for and don't receive as gifts, get a larger discount at some places when you want to buy off of your own registry. So... if you don't receive what you want, you can buy it for yourself.

Re: Registry GUILT
i orginally felt bad, but when I go to pick out gifts for all the weddings/showers/engagrment parties I go to I don't go cheap. I spend what I can. I just made sure I put a wide range of items on the registry so people have stuff at different price ranges to choose from

Re: Registry GUILT
I put a few things in my registry that I totally don't expect to get at all, and most of the things in my registry are much more reasonably priced.
Today, for example, I got a gift from a friend from college from my honeymoon registry for the tickets to the Eiffel Tower -- they're $32 for the two of us, and so much fun! I'm really excited she got that for us.
There's tons of stuff all over the place on the registry, but every little bit is appreciated and wonderful.

I just came from registering at BBB and I made sure to keep everything reasonable and to hit different price points for this reason.

I think you can still put more expensive stuff on the registry... the option will be there for the people who can spend. Plus, at Macys and BBB your guests can use coupons!!

Re: Registry GUILT
I registered for the things I wanted and in the end I have items in different price ranges. I know when I go to a shower I buy what I can afford and many time I have split an expensive gift with a couple of friends. I do not expect my guests to over spend but I want to end up with the items I REALLY want.

Re: Registry GUILT
we have every price point there is on our registy. We even have a LCD TV the way we see it is even if the items aren't purchased we can use the completion discount to buy whats left after the wedding. We aren't getting any help with the wedding from any one so the way we see it we really need to replace the old crap stuff we have anyway if pople want to buy higher priced items great if not it's ok.

I think it's okay to register for what you want as long as there is a range. . remember you are going to have these things so you have to like them. .people don't need to buy off your registry. . or you can register for cheaper things and then return them and get what you want but that seems like a PITA. . people won't spend more than they want to spend so it will all work out. .

It's fine to register for some expensive items as long as you have some moderate and some inexpensive items on there as well.

Re: Registry GUILT
As long as you are giving people a range, there is nothing to feel guilty about. People will buy what they can afford. As someone else said, at Macys and BBB people have the option of using coupons. Also, people know this is an exciting time in your life and they want to do what they can for you. If you don't get some things off the registry then you can buy them after and you'll get a discount.

I figure people can always go in on something , or if they don't have anyone to do that they canget you a gift card. Just bc you register for expensive things doesnt mean people are obligated to spend more then they normally would.

i agree with everyone else, as long as you have a variety of prices, then you will be fine. people will guy what they can afford and what's the worst that could happen...they don't get it for you. not a big deal but its better to have some expensive items because some people will want to get you a big gift. you never know what people are willing or can do for you.
