REGISTRY HELP!

REGISTRY HELP!

I am confused about some things on the registry. When registering for forks, knives, etc. are you supposed to have an every day set AND a more formal set with your china? Also, for stemware - are you supposed to have a formal set and a more casual set? HELP!

ETA: Also, what happens with sales? I'm reg'ed at Fortunoff and Macy;s and I remember the Fortunoff lady saying something like, if things go one sale once while your registered, the sale price sticks? Or something? Anyone know?

Well you can really do whatever you want! Traditionally, you would have formal flatware and stemware to go with your formal china but you don't have to do that if you don't want to.

As far as sales, I know at Macy's whoever is buying from your registry will pay the price that the item is that day. There is a huge sale going on right now and almost all the china is on sale. If anyone buys that for you now, they will get the sale price. Once they aren't on sale anymore, they have to pay full price.

it's totally a personel choice...many girls do get flatware AND silverware - along with casual glasses AND stemware - along with casual dishes AND china. I found no need for all of it just 'cause it's not really me...i did get nice stemware....but other than that i got casual china, and flatware....i couldn't see myself hand polishing silverware evertime it was going to be used, and handwashing my china lol(just not for me so i just got a nice set of dishes)but hey - to each is own! it's whatever u want!

Oh yeah - there is NO WAY that I want to hand polish silverware. I was thinking of just getting a nice set of stainless flatware that I could use with nice dishes or with regular dishes. I was thinking of the Kate Spade flatware, which is abotu $50 per place setting.

I really just know NOTHING about this kind of stuff. I don't know if $50 per place setting is cheap, average, obscenely expensive. I really don't need anything outrageous, and if this is outrageous I don't want it! Any thoughts?

Why don't you just get everday dishware and forget about the china? I mean are you ever going to use it? Have you ever used your parents china?

Honestly i found china to a great pretty thing but in the end I never use my mom's and i will not have a house to even have a family gathering at for holiday's so really no point in getting it. You have to clean it - store it and espeically with fine silverware you have to really clean it and that is a PAIN.

I rather get a nicer set of pots and pans or knives i use that more often.

I agree.
If i ever needed it i could use my parent's wedding chine. Which has been used 4 times in the last 30 years - all of which i dragged them out for.
We are sticking with basic casual pieces that we can use for a few years.

hahah lol yea - i'm way to laid back for that as well! I just got nice flatware...get what u like! who cares about the price...the whole point about your registry is that it's filled with stuff in all different price ranges...so people will have the option to spend what they want to spend.... honestly with dishes, i couldn't find any 'every day' dishes at macy's that i liked & i didn't want to get fancy shmancy china....instead macys had this beautiful 'buffet caddy'....it's a silver caddy that comes with 48 pieces....service for 8 which included two different sized dishes, forks, knives, and spoons, and u display it all on the caddy...it actually pulls of the 'china look' because they're white with platinum accents...very formal looking.i got the buffet set along with the dessert caddy which is the matching caddy and comes with dessert plates, coffee mugs, sugar bowl, milk cup, spoons etc. They are really SO adorable and they look so cute all set up in my china closet - i always get compliments...and the best part?? each set (which was 48pieces) was only $200!!!! That's what u could spend on ONE place setting of china!!! (and they can go in the dishwasher lol) i love it :) And as for my casual dishes??? I FOUND THEM AT THE FREAKIN DOLLAR TREE!!!!! no joke. my mom comes home one day & is like 'I picked u up something, tell me if u like them'....she whipped out 12 HUGE dinner plates, 12 bowls, 12 coffee mugs etc that were SO freakin' cute...(all rustic painted like)...and i'm like 'YEA I LOVE THEM! where'd u get them?!?! they're so different!'' ....leave it to the dollar tree lol...she paid a buck for each piece...and again - i get compliments on how adorable they are ALL the time. haha just wanted to share. anyways, good luck! anything else just ask!

Re: REGISTRY HELP!

I dont think the prices at Fortunoffs stick b/c I registered during a sale and the next day I looked at the registry and things were back to the regular price. I had to switch things around b/c some were too expensive at the regular price.

As for silverware. You can register for real 'silver'ware for China and stainless for everyday if you want to. But you can also use stainless with your fine china too. I know lenox makes a stainless for some of their china patterns so you can get 2 sets of stainless if you wanted to.

The same with stemware. If you want everyday glass or crystal, then a nice set of Waterford or something, get both. It all depends on how 'formal' you want to go.

I went with Luigi bromioli (sp?) b/c its inexpensive for everyday, but its still crystal.

I personally am going to register for white french porcelain as my everyday and I can dress it up. I'm also looking at the Kate Spade flatware for my everyday too! I see myself using that stuff everyday and good quality ensures that it will last forever!
