registry - how much is too much (qty on your list)

registry - how much is too much (qty on your list)

Price wise I THINK have good mix.

I have items that range from $1.99-$20 (about 35% of the list)

Items that range from $20-$60 (about 50%)

Some things that are pricy items (11 items exact - 15% of the list) that are $120-300.

My thing is I have a lot of stuff on our registry because FH and I are moving in together for the first time and we have nothing good from both of our apartments. We have junk that has been purchased at many discount stores or passed down items.

I am just wondering by me putting a lot of stuff on the two registries i have it looks like i am crying for it?

I counted 157 items total (this counts 8 place settings, 5 towels, etc) and we are inviting about 147 people to the wedding but only 30-35 people are being invited to the shower. We have a few OOT guests that I know will bring a present to the wedding which I have no problem since I really want this stuff.

So what do you think? Am i being unfair with the qty?

i think that's fine.... we registered in 4 stores and invited about 300 people to our wedding (only 200 came) -- i think people like to have a lot of options!

and those who want to spend more sometimes like to buy a lot of little things, rather than one big thing!

i really dont think that is too much.

Think if someone wants to purchase a bunch of small things they might sepnd 50.00 and give you 5-10 items.

It gives people more of a varitey of items to choose from within the price they want to spend - whatever someone doesnt purchase you can always purchase later.

Not at all!! You want to give your guest a variety and a price range to chose from. So you did good. We have about 20 pages woth of stuff from BB&B and about 8 pages from fortunoff's so i think your ok!

I think you are ok...so many places recommend that you register for more gifts than guests. Are you having an engagement party? If so, you might want to add some more gifts to the registry. Good luck!

not at all! i counted 89 items on my BB& registry and 36 on my Target one. Having more items with different price ranges on your registry makes it more flexible for people to choose what they want to buy you.

i was having a similar issue and then mom my pointed out.. that its just a wish list.. your not making anyone buy it.. i have items for $1.99 and $450 .. you have to remember people spend at all price ranges.. and somepeople might chip in and buy bigger things.. so dont worry..

I'm having the opposite problem...People keep yelling at me that I don't have enough! But, I'm like, I live in a 5 room apartment, I don't have ROOM for anything else!!!! Not to mention, we've been living in our apartment for 4 1/2 years! Anything we really need...we have!

Everything you wrote sounds very reasonable.

How many place settings is everyone registering for?

FH and I plan to live in an apt for at least another 5 - 8 yrs (we are buying one right after we marry)....so I feel like I don't really need 12 but then again, I will want the full set if I get a house later on, and what if they stop selling my pattern?

what is everyone else doing?

I did a place setting of 8. My mom said do not go with four since people break plates - etc.

I plan on entertaining but honestly I can imagine fitting more then a place setting of eight in an apartment cabinet. We also not doing china just everyday dishes. So after the wedding is over with if i think i need more I will just buy them they are only $25 for a setting.

They do discontinue patters but not that often and I have a website that has EVERY discontinued china/everday pattern. I found stuff that was my grandma's dishes that they can sell to you. Problem is the vintage or collecting pieces are $$$$$$ but everyday stuff isn't that bad. I will post the link when i find it.

THANK YOU ALL FOR YOUR RESPONSES. Made me feel soo much better.

I think the more you have the better. You prolly wont get everything, but you want a wide variety so people have things to choose from. Dont worry about it!

you should register for everything you want like and need and not worry about it being too big... you probably will not get everything off of the registry and there will be guest who do not buy off a registry BUT most places have percentages off for after the wedding date so you can complete your registry yourself.....

i am not registering until after my engagement party...so basically after the holidays but i know i am going to register for EVERYTHING i want and definitly do at least 12-16 place settings of everyday and china...
i think for me kitchen stuff is what i definitly will fill my registry with...
i think registering is the one thing i look forward to me and FH can not wait to create our list of wants...
i know i do not want bathroom stuff and sheets because these are items i can always get onsale at century 21.....

I also told my BM, that what I really want, and need are holiday decorations. I decorate my apartment for fall, halloween, thanksgiving, Christmas, winter, Spring, Easter...(I have a problem...I am aware!!! )
so, I told her, that if she really wants to, and she thinks the registry is not enough, that she can tell people to get those types of things, since I can't register for seasonal items...those are the things that I want, but can't always afford to buy myself...
though, I would love giftcards too...
that way, months down the line...when FH and I have nothing to do...we get to go 'guilt free shopping!' that's my favorite...
