Registry issue

Registry issue

No i'm not gonna ask you to post your dishes lol.

Here's my situation. I'm not registering for everyday china b/c I have my mom's. So we just need to register for everyday dishes. I see one's that I like that are 18 pieces for 150. I would also have to register for bowls and some serving pieces. But my mom is making a big deal saying that I should register for cheaper stuff. My mom also says that I shouldn't register for anything and should buy all of my stuff at Marshall's and BJ's/Costco cuz I can get more for my $. Last night the issue was about wine glasses, another time it was about pots and now it's about dishes.
I know some of you are going to say just register for what I want since it's my wedding. That's a lot easier said then done b/c it will always lead to a big fight with my mom. (For what reason I don't know, but she ALWAYS ready for a fight lately)

thoughts?

please don't quote.

I'm confused. How can you get more for your money when you're buying it (no matter where) versus someone buying it for you?????????????

I know your mom is having a hand in your shower. Ask her what your guests are supposed to do for the shower then if you don't do a registry?

this is YOUR time to receive. register for what YOU want. If no1 gets it for u... so what? only half my china was bought and NONE of my flatware. ohwell. i got sooooooooooooooooo much stuff..

i got a lot of doubles cuz BBB is HORRRIBLE.. but i returned the doubles yetserday and got 400$ in cash. and theres a lot more stuff that im returning that doesnt match the decor.. and we're putting that $ twds a dinning room.

she should only be offering you advice, not telling you what to register for. you are getting MARRIED. this isnt your sweet 16. keep reminding her that lol

You are right - I am going to tell you to register for what is going to make YOU happy. I registered for an $850 piece of luggage - piece not set - and my mom was giving me grief about it and all I could say is you don't have to buy it, so what is the problem??? And if no one buys it b/c its too expensive, then we can buy it with our gift money, gift cards, money from other returns, etc. If those are the dishes you want, get them!

Everyone tells me to registry for whatever I want no matter how much it costs. I wouldn't worry about whether someone will buy it for you or not because people always surprise you. Registry for a wide range of price points and it will be fine.

you should defintely register for what you want. this is the one time you get to make a huge wish list and get alot of stuff YOU and FH want... you should take advantage of that... you will have china forever so you should pick out what you want. Also.... $150 for 18 pieces of china does not sound like alot of $$$ at ALL!!!!!

Re: Registry issue

FH's family is the one that will have the biggest problem if we put all expensive items on our registry so what we did is register for some inexpensive items and then some middle of the road and then some expensive. FH even put an expensive set of knives and a cheaper version and then we asked for gift cards. If your mom is saying you can get the things for less expensive somewhere else such as Target or such look at registering at Target too. You may get doubles from each store but then you can always return. We did a BBB registry and a honeymoon registry.

hmm... well Marshall's and those places can be really great but you can't always get full sets so you can't bank on that.

Is your mom going with you when you register. Maybe go alone just you and Steve..

Is she a little 'out of the loop' Maybe show her a couple of your friends (our) registries so she can see what it is like. I am sure it has evolved over the years and maybe she just doesn't get it.
