Well, we started our registry this weekend and it was SOOOOO much fun!!! We aren't even close to done yet though but I have a question. The registry consultant told us that we should have approx 2 gifts per wedding guest on our registry... but that comes out to about 400 items!!!! That can't be right, can it? Are you guys going by this guideline? About how many things do you have on your registries?
PS -- we bought a home and need EVERYTHING!!!

Re: Registry Question...
We just started our registry last month and with so much time we didn't get to put everything we wanted just yet. But...personally I say just put what you want/need on the list without actually counting how many items you have. I don't think you need to figure two items per guest - that's too hard and too time consuming. I've yet to see anyone with a completely empty list by their wedding date. So don't worry about it.

Re: Registry Question...
Just remember that 200 people aren't going to your shower, so 400 would be too much. I would say it depends on what kind of stuff you pick. If most of it is expensive stuff, you would think maybe 1 or more people would buy one gift. If you register for all little things, then you need to have a lot of them for even one person to buy. Just use your judgement.
We registered at one place yesterday! I thought my FH was going to have a hard time w/ it, but he didn't (it was probably because he had possession of the scanner gun).

Re: Registry Question...
We put what we thought was enough at first- but then friends and family told us to add more..
since we both live at home, we need everything as well. We put whatever we felt we would need. My mom told us to do that and whatever we don't get from my bridal shower, she will buy for us. We didn't go overboard, but we sure put enough on to get us started. My advice- don't be shy!! If you get it, great if not, no biggy.
I will say, I was very practical when it came to registering. I made certain to not put rediculous items that were a total rip- like the $100.00 iron board.
Good luck!

Re: Registry Question...
when fi and i did our registry we had no idea what to put on there. i spoke with people and they told me to put anything and everything, cheap and expensive. we both live at home and just bought a house so we need everything. by putting a bunch of stuff on your registry you are giving people a big selection to choose from and not expecting them to buy something really expensive. fi thought putting little things for example... a measuring cup or a beaker etc. was stupid because thats stuff we could buy on our own. i told him that people like to make theme baskets and this gives them that option. plus some people even have a wishing well.
