registry question

registry question

Ok, now for the registry question that has been torturing me since I opened my registry (ok, I exagerate, but still, I am a bit worried about my choice on this one)

Stainless steel or non-stick cookware?

Please respond to the poll, and also if you would be so kind, give me your reasoning for your choice below. Thanks!

This is what Calphalon has to say about the pots I registered for:

In case that affects your judgement at all...

Re: registry question

I should note, by the way, that what I am currently registered for the is the 'calphalon one' cookware, which is supposedly non-stick but with the durability of 'more traditional' metals... I'm wondering though if maybe I should get some kind of mixture of the two? Maybe non-stick pans and stainless steel pots?

I know I'm putting way to much thought into this... but I hope to use these for a really really long time! My parents were married over 30 years ago and they still have the pots and pans they got for their wedding! (stainless steel, by the way) My mom has since added one or two non-stick pans, but she still uses many of the originals.

Re: registry question

we did a calphalon stainless steel set. I like the way stainless steel cooks...however I dolike non stick for somethings. so i reg for the stanless steel set and then i picked calphlon nonstick pieces not a set but like 2 frying pans and a skillet thing. My mom bought us like a cheaper set of nonstick just recently (we are going in to an apartment next month and we needed to cook with something since i didnt have a bridal shower yet

but i would go with stainless and get some non stick pieces

Good luck

This should help you make a decision - under high temps, studies have shown that thte teplon in non-stick pans release toxins into the food which can cause illness and eventually cancer. I do use non-stick once in a while, but I would go with a whole set of SS and then some pans of NS

IMO, register for a SS set and then for a few non stick pans.

Re: registry question

We registered for a Calphalon One set that cooks (or tastes) like stainless steel, but is easy to clean like non-stick. When we were registering for our set, two different customers in the store came up to us and told us how much they loved that set.

Ditto....that's what we did...

We registered for the SS set (durability) and then also added non-stick pans...

see, that's the thing, I did some reading and I found a lot of articles that actually said that's not really true - at least not in the higher quality pans.

Supposedly the Calphalon One pans aren't supposed to have that problem, they're supposed to be harder so the finish doesn't come off.

i too am registered for the calphalon pans. i have never liked the way that the SS pans look...but that's just me.

as for the cancer thingy---IMO i feel like everywhere you turn some new report is telling you that you're gonna die from something. i don't really believe those things. i'm sure tomorrow there will be a report that say: 'Reports show that petting baby fuzzy bunnies will cause rabies.' i pay no mind to it all.

I actually laughed out loud at that one... because I have two bunnies, one of which is looking distinctly disgruntled right now.
