Registry Question

Registry Question

FH and I live together and for our registry I was thinking that we could go together and register. That way we can choose the kind of things we both like, and I wouldn't have to describe everythink over the phone. However, is this something that a bride is supposed to do with her mother? Will mom get offended if she doesn't come? Should all 3 of us go together? Or just FH and me.

Re: Registry Question

I wasnt even considering going with my mother. FH and I went this weekend together to do our china. I never thought that MOB should go.

Re: Registry Question

Its something the bride and groom do together. The MOB should not be involved at all -- you're not going to be living with mom, you're going to be living with FH and HE should have say in what you choose.

I did not go with my mother, my FH and I spent the day together and registered for everything together. I called my mom when I got home and told her she can check the registry online. I never thought to bring my mom.

Re: Registry Question

The registry is something you and your FI do together. Your parents (and others) are NOT involved at all.

Re: Registry Question

I plan on going with my mom. FI doesn't like to shop very much (though of course he can come, or send me with a list) and her help will be useful in thinking of things that I would forget about... Plus her and I make good shopping buddies.
(He doesn't care what the dishes look like anyway, as long as food magically appears on them when he is hungry, lol)

Re: Registry Question

I think it is something to do with your FH--you're the ones picking out the stuff you're going to be using and living with.

I'm actually going tomorrow night with my FH and FMIL to register--don't feel bad about not bringing your mom.

Re: Registry Question

I did the decorating stuff with my FH. But the cooking stuff I did with my mom, because I didn't know what brands to get.

Re: Registry Question

I haven't registered yet (yes I am procrastinating, but we already have most of the household stuff and furniture), but I never considered taking my mom or his mom along.

My FH and I most things together - We brought my mom along just for the china and formal dinnerware - she had some insight for us. But the majority (95%) - my FH and I did alone.

register online, then it doesn't matter if FH doesn't like going shopping! He can drink a beer, and boxing can be on the TV to entice him to stay and participate!

Re: Registry Question

my personal preference was to do most of it myself. I have three registries. I started the first two (williams sonoma & macy's) with my mom and she was driving me crazy picking out things I didn't want. And then for the fortunoff registry I brought along my FH and he was driving me crazy too. Maybe I just have picky taste. It was helpful to have him there to pick out the silverware and china, but a lot of stuff I added online after the fact.
