FH and I are planning on registering at the end of August. We were thinking BBB, Macy's & Kohls.
He talked to his mom yesterday & she told him not to spare any expense. She told him to pick out not only average priced stuff but to get the EXPENSIVE stuff too. In her eyes, they bought for everyone else so they will buy for you too! She told him to make sure we get a really nice china set & they will all def buy it for us...
In my head I am thinking that a wedding costs alot of money for people so I am planning on putting stuff on there that isn't expensive. I am not planning on putting china on there bc i feel like we will never use it. China nowadays is not like it was back then.. I'd rather his family spend money on something WE WILL USE!!
So how are you doing your registry?? Are you doing china? Are you keeping it reasonable? How many places did you register?

Re: Registry question
Hey! We registered at BBB, Macy's and Crate & Barell...we have everything from $2 items to $300 items. We definitely gave a range and people have A LOT of options when shopping for us. We did not regsiter for china, I'll never use it. We regsitered for really nice every day white dinnerware and then I registered for nice place mats, charger plates, etc to dress it up! HTH!

We are registering at the beginning of September! We are going to register for everything we think we need (excluding China - I would rather guests get us gifts we will use frequently)...

Re: Registry question
We have three registries:
1. Registry.com - I really like it so far. We have a button at the top of our browser to add something whenever we find it anywhere on the net. But I don't know how it will work in practice. Its sinked with our Macys registry, but if they buy at Macys, it won't automatically come off the registry.com, we have to resink it.
2. Macys - So we had a more conventional registry for older guests.
3. BBB - I opened this because we didn't really find sheets and towels at Macys that we liked, but I haven't put anything in it yet.

Re: Registry question
So far we just registered at Macys. We have a range of items on there for people.
I didn't want china at first, but my grandma made us pick out a set we liked. As an eparty gift she bought us our entire set!

Re: Registry question
We registered at BB&B and Bloomingdales. We're still in the process of adding things though. Yes we have china (b/c my mother made me lol) but we def. put stuff on there so everyone can afford. Once you start adding appliances, and serving sets, you'll see that there will be a range of prices. My FH's aunt actually told my FMIL that she thought it was nice how I had such a range of things (price wise) for people to choose from. People will buy you what they want and can afford to buy you but you'll also be extremely surprised with how generous ppl are.

Re: Registry question
I've only registered at Macy's so far. I'm skipping the fine china but I did put down everyday dishes and accessories. So far I have a few expenisve pricy items on there (Like the Dyson 'Animal' that want so so so bad!) but I also have some items that are under $50. I think it's important to have a wide range of items. I'm also planning on registering at BBB and possibly JCP. HTH!

Re: Registry question
ive heard that some places give you a discount on items that were on your registry but not purchased, if this is the case i would put everything on it and you can purchase it afterwards.

Re: Registry question
I registered at Macys and BBB. BBB does really nice wrapping and they give you a percentage off registered items that were not purchased.

Re: Registry question
We did Macy's and BBB... I found that the majority of my stuff is at BBB and is cheaper BUT if people have a macys card, if Macys is having a sale they can get it there cheaper (IE: my china was just BOGO last week).
I put cheap stuff that people can buy for the shower and expensive stuff because sometimes people can chip in for a larger gift.
I did also put China on there because I know I'll actually use it. However, I think my china is reasonably priced and I'm ok with finishing up the set should i not get everything. This happened to FSIL, their china was too pricey, they only got half and had to say, hmmm do we buy the rest ourselves or return it all and start over?
ALSO I know BBB will give you 10 or 15% off whatever is left on your registry after the wedding, I don't know what Macy's does, I don't remember.

Re: Registry question
We registered at BBB and next year when it gets closer we'll add Macy's. Almost our our BBB stuff wasn't available in stores for people to purchase for our e-party so I was a little upset. We didn't register for china but rather nicer dinner plates instead. We don't have our own house yet for storage for it and honestly we may never use it. FH said when we buy a house we can discuss buying it ourselves, this way we don't have to worry about storing it and moving and it possibly breaking. We registered for stuff all the way up $500ish (my dyson!!) so people have a choice. As for people buying you your china, you'd be shocked, my sister ended up getting her entire set at her shower BUT she's been married 9 years and has yet to use it.

Re: Registry question
i'm registered at BBB and bloomingdale's right now and will be adding in a crate & barrel registry. i've got a pretty big variety in terms of cost and even though i have a few pricey items am not worried too much because i've split some of the larger ticket items off of registries with fellow bm's or friends in the past. i'm also not registering for china either because I won't use it and agree with you that i want people to buy things that will actually be used.

Re: Registry question
Im registered at BB&B and I have a honeymoon registry too. I do have china on my BB&B registry but I dont really like it so I wanna go back... im not really sure that I would ever use it. I agree I would rather get gifts we could actually use or help towards paying for my HM!

Re: Registry question
we are registered at BBB and are planning one other place. we didn't reg for formal china bc we knew we would never use it but we didnt want totally cheap dishes, either, so we went w/ a middle of the road price/quality that we can use for everything and then registered for things to enhance it for holidays (gorg wine glasses, chargers, napkins, etc.). if u arent going to use it dont register for it, you have to do what you as a couple want. also i agree w/ you to not do all expensive but to include some lower price for those w/ lower budgets

Re: Registry question
I did a honeymoon registry and one at BBB. I have all sorts of price ranges. It's just a wish list so honestly I don't think its a problem to have something super expensive on it.

Re: Registry question
We registered at BBB and Macy's. I wanted to keep it simple with only two places. Most of our items were at BBB only bedding, towels and a few misc things were at Macys. I found it easier for people to shop at BBB because you can use the coupons. I registered for items from $3.99 - $500.
All of the items on our registry were carefully selected because WE LOVED THEM. We were conscious about price a little bit, and did have some expensive items on there but if we really wanted something we put it on our list. We also wanted to make sure there were all practical things on there (ex: I didn't have any picture frames or any home decor)
What I did was choose more expensive items where it really counts. Our China set and bedding was really expensive, but I knew that closer family would probably purchase those items for us.
Honestly, this is your one time to choose items for your home that you love. You should put everything that you want on there. You might not get everything, but you also may be really surprised that you do!
Good Luck!! <3

Re: Registry question
We are not going to register for China. I have my mom's after she passed, so we can break that out when we have special occasions, but if we didn't have it, I still would not register for it. It's a choice that only you can make. My FH and I were talking about the registry, and really adding what WE want, not what everyone 'thinks' we should have on it. I have friends though who wanted China and got it through their registry. it's def not something you will want to spend on yourself down the line...
