Just wondering if there is a restriction on how far in advance you can register?? My wedding is in 18 months, is it too early to register??
TIA

Re: Registry Questions
i say go for it bc people may get you engagement gifts off of it and its so easy to update it online if things go out of stock. happy registering!

Re: Registry Questions
No restriction at all. You can start registering now if you like or you can wait. The thing is that they will tell you not to register for bathroom linens or bedroom linens until a few months before the wedding, because thinggs get discontinued and the stores come out with new items regularly. The bedroom set that Danielle and I registered for was already discontinued and all we got so far is the Comforter...

I was figuring it was better to register too especially with the holidays coming up...THis way people can buy things off of that! I know not to register for bedroom stuff & things like that...Thanks for your input!

Re: Registry Questions
i registered at fortunoff about 4 months before my wedding and stuff was discontinued every week. so i had to keep up on that, it was annoying. there swore that they notified me of discontinued items, but they never did.

Re: Registry Questions
you can register whenever you want......i think it's better to register sooner than later...you can always update the registry...and people LOVE to buy gifts for people getting married, and it's easier if they have an idea of what you like from your registry....at least that's how my family was.
Plus....registering is so much fun!!!! It's like shopping without having to pay anything!!!!

That happened to Danielle and I. A lot of the items we registered for that were discontinued, we removed from our list and registered for them at Macys. I know a lot of people don't like Macys but Danielle and i havent had any problems with them...

What kind of items were discontinued??? I don't want to register for bed linens yet, bc we are unsure of what we are getting furniture wise. I know the other odds & ends that I want to get....

items that were discontinued was my vacuum, toaster oven, everyday plates, everyday flatware, and a whole bunch of other stuff. so if you do register early, make sure you keep up on the registry!

Re: Registry Questions
also, at Fortunoff, they have stickers on things that say 'not recommended for bridal registry' because they are going to be discontinued soon...... and stickers that say something about 'bridal registy favorite' or something like that....pay attention to those and you can avoid some of the stress of having to worry about updating!!

Re: Registry Questions
Personally, I would NOT register now. Considering your wedding is far away. I registered in January for an October wedding. It was a HUGE mistake. Almost everything I had registered for was discontinued because they got rid of many things. I had my engagement party and I didn't register for it and it was a good thing. I received a lot of money. I registered for my shower.
My honest advice, don't register now! It would be better if you waitied until the wedding got closer. GL

Re: Registry Questions
I would register if you are having an engagement party, but make sure you check your registry often. I registered at Macy's and a lot of my stuff was discontinued. Its not easy to update your registry when you are planning your dining table around your china and your china is discontinued (as happened to me - and it was a well-known Wedgewood brand). I also had a lot of stuff at Pottery Barn that was discontinued (my chargers, silverware, glasses, etc.). My pots were also discontinued, as were most of my electrics. I think I am the exception though.
Just keep that in mind!

I am thinking of holding off on the registering..>We are not have an engagement party & by January we are hoping to find a house...Once we know EXACTLY what we want, I will register...
Thanks girls for all your insight

Re: Registry Questions
You can do it now but keep in mind things do get discontinued. I'd register for a few select items or single items( like a scale). If you register for a china pattern and only get 3 place settings then it gets disconinued, you'll be in trouble. Check the return policy for this. Also, appliances have a warrantee from the time of purchase, so make sure the warantee doesn't expire before you get to use it.

Re: Registry Questions
I WOULD register for certain things now. Maybe hold off on the bedding but 'gifty' type items may be worth it. We got engagement gift from so many people that I am so glad that we registered eraly. In fact, we did that before we did anything else!! Stuff like vases, display bowls, serving pieces, cake plates, candle sticks, etc. Even the bedding - if you fall in love with something, register for it! If it gets discontinuted between now and then you can always change it but if someone has it in their mind to buy you someothing, wouldn't you rather it be something that you and FH want rather than just having to go and return it?
