Registry Question/Vent

i don't want come off sounding unappreciative because i am of anything that anyone decides to purchase off of my registry but i just checked and someone purchased a set of cookware that i didn't register for??...so i spoke to my mother and she confirmed that yes this person didn't like the set that i picked out and thought that it looked 'cheap' meanwhile it was $100 more then the one this person purchased...now the question, is it rude to return the item afterwards and purchase the set that i picked out for a reason and want? my mother said this happens all of the time and it's fine to return it but in a way i would feel bad if this person found out...

wow, some nerve to say that it was cheap. I mean it is something that you liked. Don't feel bad, I would return it for the item that I wanted. Thats the whole point of the registry...You can wait to see if you like it then decide. But now someone might be be ordered the cookware thats on your registry, do you plan on removing it?

wow, i can't believe someone would do that. though i'm sure it's not the first time! i guess you should see if you like it first. if you do great, otherwise I would return it for the one you want.

There is nothing wrong with returning the gift after the fact and buying what you originally wanted. I wouldn't remove your set from the registry - someone might decide to purchase it for you and you can return the other set for something else you wanted but didn't get. Just thank the person for their gift and leave it at all. No one has to know you returned it for something else. Your mom is right - this happens all the time.

I really think it's rude for someone to do that. This isn't about what she likes, it's about what you like. I say go and return it!

i agree with everyone else! i don't see anything wrong with returning it. There was obviously a reason you picked the other one. I think she was rude to buy you one that you didn't want.

Not rude for you to return it. The person bought you the gift to make you happy... so go make yourself happy and get the cookware you want!

People are so weird.

i wouldnt feel bad returning it. You're the one who will use it. I'm sure you'll change ur mind about alot of things u registered for later on that u might end up exchanging

i think you should return the set they gave you. They didn't care that they called your taste cheap so you shouldn't feel bad about getting the set you registered for. I work at Williams-Sonoma and I see all the time people come in and say I'm not getting her that and I try to be like well she doesn't want that one. It's a lost cause. At the end of the day I guess just say thank you and exchange it if you hate it. My mom actually did this too....she got me a waffle maker that I didn't register for. I actually like it better so I ended up keeping it but I was like Mom this is the point of a registry. My bridesmaids are trying to teach her all about registries...it's actually kinda funny.

I know how you feel. I asked for a very specific item from Wal-Mart. A particular rotisierre that isn'ty so expensive. People told me that they wouldn't be 'THE PERSON' to buy something from Wal-Mart. Even though it's what I wanted. Someone bought me one that was more expensive and yet NOT what I wanted, just because it doesn't seem right to them. Exchange it and get what you want. People are just weird.
