Registry Website for a House Fund instead of Honeymoon Fund?
Is this rude to do? We want downpayment house $$$ for wedding gifts, not for our honeymoon! People have honeymoon fund websites, can't I have a downpayment fund website? :) We've been living together for years anyway, so we don't need too many things...we really, really need $$ for a house! Please help!

IMO while it sounds ideal, I don't think it is appropriate. Im sorry!

You could just have no registry then. Some people might get you gifts, but you can return them for the cash if you don't like them. A lot of people will know that a lack of a registry means you just want cash.
Even the honeymoon site does take a percentage. They give you a bank check or wire you the money for whatever people give you and you end up with the cash and can spend it on whatever you want, minus their service charges.

if u plan to register and return for cash, be careful cus most places will only return for store credit. Bed Bath and Beyond does cash back though as far as I know.

I would just not register then...but maybe if you're going to have a shower anyway, suggest a money shower? Hahah
I have seriously heard of these though...its just instead of what people would spend on a 'house gift' they'll write out a check instead. Still considered a faux pas, but exists anyway

I've read that not registering is just 'rude,' and my mom agrees. UH. We will register for minimul items, and hopefully people will get the hint! Thanks, everyone!

I don't think not registering is rude, but there are people who will want to buy an actual gift no matter what. Even if they are told to give money. So you figure if you register for some things, they will probably get you that rather than just sme random gift. At least with a registry you can choose the store it will come from even if u intend to return it.

Do you have china? I have been living with FH for 3 years, but there are still a lot of things that we need. I originally had like 10 items on my registry...now, i probably have 50. You'd be surprised what you need. Think of things that will be a necessity once you have a house (not necessarily what you would 'want'). No, the gifts won't pay your morgage, but they will eliminate the need to spend money on things for the house once you move in. It's funny, my FH always says 'we can buy that when we have a house' and my response is, 'Yes, but this we can add to the registry...a mortgage we cannot.'
