Ok, so I invited my boss and his wife to my wedding and they responded yes. A week or so ago my boss asked if I had received the RSVP and I said yes, he then said, oh, btw, where are you registered? So I told him and went back to my office... Today I come home and there is a gift from my registry on my doorstep from my boss and his wife.... The wedding is just under 2 months away and I was figuring they would just give a card and monetary gift... So, my question is: Is this a very belated engagement gift (on Friday FH and I will have been engaged for a year) or the wedding gift? I would have thought that this was the wedding gift but (not to sound ungrateful) it cost $80... What do you ladies think?

Re: Registry/Gift ?
hmmmmmmmmmmmmmmm good question. What was it?
I would say I received your gift and I want to send a thank you, what was it for wedding or engagement? Is that offensive? I'd make up something stupid like I have specific cards for each....lol

hmmmm. That is a tough one. I think you won't know until after the wedding. It kinda seems like his wife asked him to ask you, and then sent something. Lol. Let us know how it plays out.

Sadly I think it's a wedding gift. But that is pretty cheap from your boss. Sorry!! I would be pretty peeved.!

I would guess that it is an engagement gift since it was sent before the wedding and since they said they were going to the wedding. I would just send a thank you card now thanking them for the gift and then see what happens at the wedding. keep us posted.

Re: Registry/Gift ?
Most likely a wedding gift. I did receive some gifts from my registry prior to the wedding as wedding gifts, and people brought gifts to the wedding. I had quite a few OOT who brought gifts and a few who were not OOT as well.
Honestly its what they chose to do and what they felt comfortable getting for you whether it was a gift or cash. Just be thankful they got you something from your registry rather than attempting to try and get you something you would have to return, which is the boat I am stuck in.

Re: Registry/Gift ?
Maybe his wife wanted to send you a gift as a shower gift? Is she invited to the shower? I would say send out a blanket thank you - thank you for the beautiful gift - can't wait to see you at the wedding. That way they know you got the gift and then see what happens at the wedding.
On another note. Do I assume that if I am sent a gift off my registry before the shower that the person who sent it isn't coming???

It's not that I'm ungrateful at all, I'm appreciative of the gift, I was just confused as to why they sent something now since most people would wait till the day of the wedding at this point.

No, his wife is not invited to the shower, I don't really know her at all, I only met her twice. I'm just going to send a thank you card and leave it at that. Thanks!

Re: Registry/Gift ?
I received a gift a few days ago, 4 of my flatware place settings. The card specifically said 'a gift for your wedding', or something similar to that. Not sure how you should go about it. Since I know it's our wedding gift I'm waiting to send the 'thank you'.
Was there a card with the gift?

Oh, no, I won't dare ask! I could never get the guts to do that!!! I always knew he was cheap, but even I gave him more credit than that I guess what they say is true, those that have it don't spend it and those that don't have it do! I'll feel really crappy about this if they do give me a gift at the wedding too

Re: Registry/Gift ?
I think it's probably for the wedding...I'm experiencing a similar situation actually. A friend of FMIL who was invited to the shower with her mother apparently bought us 2 sheet sets, 1 towel set, and a citrus juicer, which I thought was an extremely generous shower gift from someone who met me once and never, respectively (they were from Macy's so the thank you note feature said who bought all 4 items)....well you can imagine my surprise when the shower came and I got 'only' the towels and 1 of the sheets...where's the other sheets and juicer??? I think those might be for the wedding gift

Oh boy, I guess we can all drive ourselves crazy trying to figure out what peoople are thinking/doing! My boss and I had to go to a lunch meeting today and in the car I said to him, 'oh, by the way, I received the gift that you and Kim sent. I'm not sure if it was supposed to come to me or if Macy's messed up and it was supposed to go to you, so I wanted to let you know that I received it and thank you so much!' All he said was, no, I'm pretty sure Kim meant to send it to you... That was it
Keep me posted on your gift situation. I can't wait to hear what happens :)

Re: Registry/Gift ?
My friend from high school wasn't able to attend my shower and sent a gift and she specifically wrote on the card that it's a shower and wedding gift. The total cost $160. Meanwhile she is coming to the wedding with her boyfriend and that covers 1 person's plate. I thought it was odd since she always says how much she misses me and wishes we were still as close as we once were (she has moved to Boston).
My fiance's cousin sent a gift (a guy) and said 'I'm not sure if I can come to the wedding but I will let you know by the rsvp date' and got us a $65 gift. I don't know why he sent a gift if he's not sure if he's coming or not but he is invited with a date and a $65 gift for 2 people is ridiculous.

Re: Registry/Gift ?
We had a few people come w/o a gift and after the fact contact us for our address to send us something. It took me a while to figure out we didn't get anything from them. So far we got nothing, but it's strange...if you you're going to the wedding, wouldn't you already have the gift ready to either bring or send at that time? (Not to mention the address is on the invitation and the registry has the shipping address.) 2 of the people are from the south so I don't know, maybe there is different etiquette there?

Re: Registry/Gift ?
Sounds like a wedding gift to me. We have had a couple of the same experiences and they turned out to be wedding gifts.
