rehearsal @ Rhearsal DInner....help

Ok so is anyone NOT actually doing a Rehearsal???
i REALLY want to- i wanna make sure everyone knows where they're going and standing....
FH thinks its stupid!
THEN i called my FMIL to see where she would like to do the rehersal dinner (since tradiitional the grooms parents host that dinner and since my parents are paying for the wedding)

and her response was 'rehersal??? what is there to rehearse???'

so i was alittle taken aback- i'm not gonna argue with her- but i DO wanna rehearse...... she did agree to do a cocktail party at her house

what are all of you ladies doing???

i dont know if your getting married in a church, but I think its required if you are......when you have it at the RH then its not required, and sometimes difficult to schedule when they have weddings going on and other parties in the evenings....but i'm doing a rehersal at church and then we're all going to dinner at McQuades in Lynbrook after

o sorry i forgot to metion that part- we are getting married at the RH but my procession is gonna be complicated- i have my 3 brothers walking me half way down the aisle then meeting my parents in the middle- PLUS i have 7 little kids in the wedding- so i just wanna make sure they all know whats going on.... and even though its kinda selfish- i want a sit down dinner at reherasal- but she's only offering a cocktail party- just appetizers....
but what am I to do ????

We got married at the RH too. Really, there isn't anything much to rehearse...even if u have a 'complicated' procession. The staff at your RH will tell every1 what to do....it's their job and they've done it well a million times. I wasn't really stressing about it but, in the back of my mind I wondered if it would all work out....and it did!

We are also getting married at the RH and we are paying for the RD ourselves. As far as rehearsing goes, at the dinner im going to let everyone know who is walking with who and give the basic timeline of the day, e.g. what time to be there, etc etc. That way everyone will kind of have an idea of what their supposed to do and when their supposed to do it! I'm also going to give out the bridal party gifts at the dinner.

If you are doing a coctail party the night before, go into the driveway and reherse. Let them kow that its important to you.

I am doing my rehersal before the ceremony.

I, myself am clueless as to what actually happens at a rehearsal dinner. Obviously I know that there is some rehearsing, and dinner and gifts. But having never attended one, it is difficult to plan one.

i was in a wedding party once where they didnt do a full rehearsal just had a dinner. They had extra space so they wanted to just line everyone up so they knew who to go with on the way up the aisle and back down it. It was over in about 20 mins. just in time for the main course. See if that's an option.

I am going to try to schedule one at my RH, but if not my DOC says she can do one at the restaurant for the RD before everyone else shows up.

I think it depends on how big of a bridal party you have. I had 3 girs, 4 guys, and 2 flower girls and a rehearsal really helped a lot because we were all over the place and that was with a relatively small BP! If it puts your mind at ease to rehearse, then you definitely should do it and don't let anyone else make you feel nitpicky or anything like that.

I think that sometime during the cocktail party, call over the bridal party and whoever else is involved and talk to them and rehearse! I think that it's definitely important to rehearse so it looks smooth the day of, especially if you feel it's complicated.

I'm doing my crunch rehearsal before the ceremony (i think the officant gets to the RH like an hour before) and we can rehearse then. It won't take too much preparation and you can prob do a mini rehearsal at the cocktail party you were planning on having. Don't worry too much....you'll get time to rehearse!

thanks ladies- its just hard when FH is so against it- so i feel like i have no one on my side to help me organize this-
I even tried to pull the officiant card and like blame it on her BUT i emailed her and even SHE said she DOESNT do reherseals?!?!? so i'm on my own....
i guess at the cocktail party I can announce who is walking with who... then since we're doing pics before the ceremony we'll hopefully have time before to actually rehearse.... i just didnt want ANOTHER thing to stress about like hours before the ceremony...... ugh

You can still have a rehearsal dinner you just may have to pay for it if his parents dont want to.

Have the same questions, but we're most likely going to have a dinner since I want to give the BP their gifts and just have some one on one with them...they are the very important people who will help ensure our day runs smoothly and who we are closest too. You get some quiet time before the big day....its a nice tradition and doesn't have to cost a fortune.

It's really a get together for your family and wedding party to go over everything before your wedding day. Of course, the whole point of the rehearsal dinner is to go over and cover anything that they need to know for the day of your wedding. For ex. line-up for ceremony/reception, etc. I would try to make it more casual instead of formal. It might create a more pleasant laid-back vibe for your FH and MIL so they won't feel uncomfortable with the idea of a stuffy formal rehearsal. This way you get to cover and share your wedding details with everyone as well as sit down and relax over dinner. You can prepare dinner such as a simple backyard grill at your home to cut down the cost if the idea of a restaurant i is too costly.

I am getting married at the RH. I did a 'thank you' dinner instead and thats where I gave gifts, told people who they are walking with, etc. I had it at blonde in miller place and they shut down the restaurant for us and the food was awesome! Wine is included in there price per person...
