I have to ask the brides to be a question - my future groom believes that we should have open bar at our rehearsal dinner and I dont see the point to have it because the only people who really drink are his side and not mine. He doesnt seem to think that it is right for us to have a cash bar.....someone please help me...I am get so frustrated and annoyed with him over this.

Re: Rehearsal Dinner
agreed about the wine and beer... but let me ask you... what day of the week is it?? because if it's a week night, and people have work the next day... is it worth it to have an open bar???

Re: Rehearsal Dinner
some places might include it in the ppp - if it is in your budget than i don't see the harm in it

Re: Rehearsal Dinner
I am fine with beer and wine and soda, and we are not sure who will be paying for it...I think we might be because we are paying for the bulk of everything anyway. We were thinking of having it on a Thursday or Friday night. I just think that since we are having an open bar at the wedding I dont see spending 2500 for the rehearsal dinner which is like 1/5th of our actually wedding reception.

Re: Rehearsal Dinner
i don't think its a must to have open bar for the rehearsal dinner....plus you guys are paying for the wedding so just keep it simple so your not going crazy......and if his family has a problem with it maybe they can pay for the open bar??

I dont think it is necessary to have an open bar for RD. We are having wine , beer and soda.

Re: Rehearsal Dinner
I said the same thing to him about his family paying and saying that I dont find the need to pay 15 dollars a person extra for open bar when 30 of those 50 people are not going to drink....maybe I am seeing his point or something.

Re: Rehearsal Dinner
i went to two rehearsal dinners. 1 was on a sunday the other on a thursday, neither had an open bar just wine & beer. no one even looked for anything else.
i personally don't think its an open bar kind of event

Re: Rehearsal Dinner
you could go with just beer and wine. That usually saves money, but still lets people drink

Re: Rehearsal Dinner
He just keeps telling me that it is tacky not to have open bar and looks bad...I cant get it through his 'thick skull' that it doesnt make us look bad. I keep telling him if you dont have the money then you dont spend it. I also told him that if you give people only three options then they will stick with those options...too many options are not good.

Re: Rehearsal Dinner
Keep it simple and serve the basics; wine, beer, and maybe even a few select top shelf beverages ( like a vodka beverage, cosmos, cranberry etc). There really is no reason to drink that much if the wedding is the next night. If worse comes to worse, let your guest order what they want and than have the bar run you a tab. Sometimes, places will work out a deal with you in the end.

Re: Rehearsal Dinner
it doesn't have to be...my parents did it for my brother's wedding but they also stopped serving after a certain hour cuz they didnt want people crazy drunk for the wedding the next day. it made sense to me and it actually worked cuz everyone was there the next day sober as can be! lol

Re: Rehearsal Dinner
I think its a guy thing, Dh requested open bar bc he said he will want to drink scotch and that sort of stuff and so will his friends. The RD is one area i didnt get into with the planning, well dh and i suggested a location and thats about it but his mom went to the restaurant and spoke to the person and booked it. I think they were able to add the price to the per person price but not 100% mightve been an open tab that she got a bill for later.
Ive seen it done both ways so do whatever you like. You can tell him that alot of ppl do beer and wine so its nothing out of the norm. Maybe talk to the restaurant where you will book it and see if they can throw in a signature type drink that will be served to your guests.
ETA: mine wasnt the day before, it was 2 days before
