I still have a lot of time to work this out but how does the rehearsal dinner work if my FH and his family are OOT guests coming from P.R. They can't really host a dinner if they don't know NY at all. I was thinking of just having something informal at my house...like cocktails and finger food but my parents are already doing so much and I dont want to overwhelm them and unfortunately FH and I are not in a good financial position to hold a big party. What does everyone think? anyone else in a situation where your groom and his family are coming from out of town?

My FH and his family will all be coming up to NY from NC for the wedding, and most of them will be arriving the night before the wedding.
My dad and I went out yesterday (just about a month before the wedding) to look for places for the RD that might work. We decided to do it at the hotel we will all be staying at (everyone BUT my parents). That way, FH's parents won't have to worry about getting anywhere for the dinner itself.
FH's parents are not familiar with the custom that they should be paying for the RD and FH won't ask them about it, so my dad is just stepping up and helping to foot the bill (ok, he's paying for the whole darn thing). He said in the grand scheme of the wedding, it's not going to cost that much more so he'll cover it. FMIL has only offered to split the groom's cake with me in terms of paying for anything at the wedding. (I don't know if we're even going to have one!) FH has even paid for their hotel rooms.
Not sure if that helps, but that's what's going on in my experience with a little over a month to go.

that does help! thank you! I just didnt know how to go about planning it. Its a good idea doing it somewhere in the hotel they are staying in or near it. That'll save my mom the hassel of getting her house all dirty before the wedding. My parents will prob end up paying for it and FHs side doesnt have a lot of money so we most likely will be putting them up in the hotel as well.
