Rehearsal Dinner
I have no idea because the grooms parents are suppose to pay for it and since they choose not to be in the picture it is another cost for us. If it was up to me we would go back to my house and have hamburgers and hotdogs and a hero because thats all we are really going to be able to afford. Im thinking my parents might step in just to help us out.

I've got the same problem!
Rehearsal will be at Douglaston Manor in Queens. FH and I are paying for it, not the groom's parents (who are divorced). Mother is offering to pay our honeymoon, because she wants her money to go towards her son having a chance to travel.
We were lookign for a quiet, low-key, home-based affair - but live in Ronkonkoma.
Is it too far? Ideas near Queens/Nassau border?

I had my engagement party at Carmela's in Franklin square. The food was awesome, and they have a better priced menu if you do it Mon-Thurs!

There are a few good restaurants right on Jericho Turnpike. Piccola Bussola (Italian family style), Carlinos (Italian restaurant), Churrasqueira Bairrada (Portugese Rodizio, AMAZING!, and there is a ton more.
There are also some other ones on Mineola Ave. as well as a bunch in Williston Park and Westbury. Paparazzi in Westbury is a favorite of mine!

This is exactly what my FSIL did last year. After the rehearsal we went back to her MIL house. She had some hot dishes, salads, a hero, some desserts. It was very low key, but a very nice time. Since I'm getting married next July 5th, I'm really trying to have a 4th of July BBQ rehearsal dinner, very picnic-y. There are no rules other than make it true to you! Good Luck, Enjoy!

Rehearsal Dinner
we arent having a RD...our ceremony is at RH and there really isnt even a run thru process prior to that day..we spoke with everyone and no one seems to feel it is necessary so we don't have one planned..lol..(score for my wallet) but we will see if it stays like that!
