Rehearsal dinner at community hall? VFW, etc?

I need help! FH and I are trying to save money on the rehearsal dinner (aka big get together the night before the wedding cuz we're not having a rehearsal). So we figured we should look to rent a cheap hall and bring our own catered food. We're probably gonna have lots of people so we need to keep the per person cheap, hence no restaurants.

I have no idea how to look for a VFW/Knights of Columbus/whatever else to see whether they rent out a hall if they even have one. If anyone knows of anything like that near Syosset I'd really appreciate your input. Actually, any advice at all would be soooo appreciated.

Thanks!!!

Thanks for the tip. This might be a dumb question but what exactly do you mean by firehalls?

Many of the fire departments have party rooms you might be able to rent out. I attended a communion that was in an Elks Club and it was a good sized room.

I totally understand about trying to save money. We had such an elaborate wedding and when it came to the RD- we just had it in his parents basement & set up tables for everyone to sit and catered buffet chaffing dishes. It was great. Everyone felt comfortable & relaxed there.

Don't sweat the small stuff.(a little advise)

There's a VFW hall right on Rte 107 in Hicksville. We had my stepmom's 50th Birthday there.
The address is 320 S. Broadway, Hicks 516-931-7843. They have 2 rooms available. They were very easy to work with except for when I was hanging thing on the walls. They didn't want me decorating with tape or thumbtacs.

You can also try Churches and temples to rent a room. I rented a room from a church for another party. There's plenty of places like that.
Good luck!
