rehearsal dinner.. can you skip it??

The FH and I aren't really thinking about doing a rehearsal dinner. I think its a nice idea, but we kind of don't want to spend the extra $$ and the FH just thinks its unecessary. I haven't asked my parents how they feel about it. Any thoughts?

i think it's kind of necessary. (JMO) it's a thank you for attending the rehersal, being in my bp, everyone gets to meet and get to know one another, type of thing. with that being said, i don't think theres any reason to spend a lot on a rehersal dinner. if a restaurant is out of your budget then what about at someones house and you can make pasta dishes, order pizza, salad, have an italian theme. or do a chinese buffet. it doesn't have to be fancy. or even a fun bbq with burgers and hot dogs!

hth!

we did one but i dont think they r a must..yes it was fun and we gave out the bp gifts but we could have skipped it

i will say though the run through with the prist at the church was helpful..we went through th whole ceremony, walking down etc etc

defiitely skipable! We didnt rehearse but we had a get together for our bridal party/family just cause our my in laws wanted to. If we had to pay for it, we most certainly would have skipped it!

We are skipping ours, we don't have our rehearsal until the wedding day. I was thinking of taking the bridal party out for a luncheon to give them their presents.

Thanks Girls.. yeah the FH wants to take his guys to a baseball game or something as a gift, and I'll do a lunch/spa day with my girls, so that''ll be my gift/bonding time for them

as long as you actually do the rehearsal you don't have to feed them . but it is actually customary for the grooms family to pay for it!

A BBQ is a VERY good idea. We are getting married on a Sunday.. most of my BM's are out of towners.. I kind of wanted to relax Sat. night, so maybe sat. afternoon we can have a bbq.. I'm sure everyone will be in town by then anyways!

We won't be rehearsing, but we will be having out of town guests at the hotel the night before, so we might arrange all going out to dinner together, but we won't pay for everyone. There is no room in our budget!

Right.. we'll also be having our out of town guests at a hotel nearby, so going out to dinner is a good idea.. I just hope people wouldn't automatically think its on us... not sure how I'd go around that..

IMO ppl will probably assume you guys are paying if everyone goes out to dinner ....I would do something, if it's not in your budget I'd at least order some pizzas and get together at your house/parents house etc.

We're not rehearsing until right before the ceremony and our BP is scattered (NJ, FL, Greece, LI and SI)... so we're having a brunch a week earlier for most of them and exchanging then. I def think its skippable tho, or acceptable to just gather together for a picnic, BBQ or other. I don't think you should spend a ton of cash on it. You're already going to thank them with gifts, you can give it to them the day of if its an option.

I think that as long as you communicate this to any OOTer, you are fine. Last year I went to a wedding in Chicago and was insulted when I was asked to be a greeter but was not invited to RD (esp. when the family hosting flaunt their wealth) . After spending money on flights to fly in day before for me and FH, we were annoyed but would have felt better about it if we had been forewarned.

I'd only skip it if I'm also skipping the rehearsal. I think that asking people to come out to the rehearsal and then not feed them is rude.

Well we're getting married @ the crest hollow... so I think we'll just run through the ceremony that same day, a few hours before or something... is that what usually happens?
