Are you inviting people personally/verbally or are you actually sending out some sort of invitation? If so, when did you do this and how did you coordinate with FMIL? Thanks!

Re: Rehearsal Dinner invitation protocol
My FMIL is sending out invites this week which is 4 weeks before the wedding. I gave her a list of all of the addresses and she took it from there.

Hmm...FMIL seems resistant to that. Wants to invite by just telling people. Is that ok?

Re: Rehearsal Dinner invitation protocol
hey Alison - I brought out my 'Big Emily' book for you on this one. Miss Post says that written invitations are called for when inviting guests to a rehearsal dinner, but they can be informal cards. Hope that helps...

Re: Rehearsal Dinner invitation protocol
Alison, my MIL also just wanted to verbally invite. (in a nice way, she just didn't want to add anything more to our list). I totally wish we had done formal invites!!! my one regret. Here is why: (1) it would have helped in our final count (we paid for 3 extra than we needed to; (2) NO one knew how to get there. I must have sent a dozen emails with directions and answered twice as many phone calls the night before! an invitation with a quick direction card would have been great! (3) we COMPLETELY forgot to invite a really good friend of mine from Cornell, whom i actually put down as coming and counted in the final count, but just never got around to giving her specifics! (we had talked about it early on, but then i guess i never got back to her ) I felt terrible!!!!
so, i would nicely suggest that you should send out formal invites (and honestly, i would think you could just get those ones from a Hallmark store or even Target). Nothing fancy, just something. Maybe shoot for 4-6 weeks before. If nothing else, at least send e-vites to emails if people have em!! It will save her $$ because you will not mess up your count like me!
good luck!

Re: Rehearsal Dinner invitation protocol
I am sending out invites to my bridal party, their immediate families and mine and FH's immediate families (this is already 55 people). We plan to invite the out of town guests just by word of mouth. We are luckily just having it at home.

Re: Rehearsal Dinner invitation protocol
I will be sending out informal invites. This way I don't have to remember who I did or didn't tell and they will have all the info written down for them so there is no confusion.

Re: Rehearsal Dinner invitation protocol
I am making simple invites and asking people to RSVP regrets only. FFIL is taking care of the RSVP part.

We will be sending out invites to everyone that needs to be there... Probably sending them out 3-4 weeks before the wedding.
