My FMIL is planning on sending out invitations for the rehearsal and dinner. Should the invitations be inviting people to the rehearsal at the church (and say dinner following at xxx) or should the invite be just for the rehearsal dinner (and not mention the actual rehearsal? Is this too confusing? Please help!

I would mention the church and then say Please join us for dinner after the rehearsal at LOCATION, ADDRESS.

I agree with Julie. What I have noticed is there can be miscommunication, so put it in writing for everyone.
