Ok, so i went looking on Saturday at places for our RD in the commack/hauppague smithtown area... we are looking at the same day July 28
So I can give you sommmmme info.
We went to Rosewood Inn in Melville on 110,
Orlando's on commack, San Marco in Hauppauge and Garden Grill in Smithtown.
I have all the menus and stuff. We are having between 25-30 people.
Rosewood had two rooms they could offer. The place was nice, but the only thing was that you could only pick three entrees to serve and it came to I think $42 pp with wine beer soda -- I thought it was a bit much.
Garden Grill had an equally pricy menu because they only charge for salad and pasta course and main course, then there is additional for apps and alcohol (a lot!) They had a room on the first floor where they set up round tables and if you are able to guarantee 40 people they will give you the whole second floor. the room is really nice, but the staircase comes up the middle of the room splitting both sides but it has a little deck area that isnice and it has nice high ceilings.
San Marco had a very nice menu but for the number we wanted they were going to set up dividers in the middle of the main dining area and I really wanted a private room.
We did not check Ciao Baby in Commack but people have recommended it to us. I hope that helps a bit. Oh people have also recommended Bonwit to us. Good luck!

I definitely recommend Bella Vita and The Garden Grill which are both in the St. James/Smithtown area. They have very nice rooms with great food...

My sister is having hers at La Famiglia in Smithtown-- great food, family style portions!

Also, I am having my e-party at Tellers in Islip (they have private rooms but I know you didn't mention Islip as a location you wanted) BUT the owner (when we met with him) told me that they just bought a place in Huntington and they will be opening it in early June 2006-- they have a great reputation and are known for their food...
plus, If I were you I would really like the idea that the place is new and not many other people have been there. He said that the place is going to be gorgeous with private rooms for parties b/c thats a big thing they do and of course, amazing food. I don't remember the name or location specifically-- just Huntington but you can contact Teller's in Islip, ask for Peter, and he'll tell you all about it! They are already reserving parties.

I had my rehearsal dinner at 'La Famiglia' in Smithtown. We had the back room to ourselves. The food was delicious and plentiful (family style)....everyone raved about it! They did a wonderful job!!
