I just got back from New York and I need help!!! We are going to have our rehearsal dinner on a Friday night (wedding on Sunday). I need a place in NYC for approx 40-50 people. We looked at Tuscan (formerly Tuscan Steak) on Saturday night and the food was just ok. My FH was really hoping to book them so now we are back to square one. Does anybody have any recommendations?

We actually had quite a bit of difficulty finding a place that could accommodate us for the RD and we had around the same amount of people you will. Not many restaurants have a private area/room and the few that did only held around 30 people. Are you looking in a specific neighborhood? I have the names of the few places we looked at and the one we ended up using if you want them.

Thanks Fletch. The private room thing is the issue. We also looked at Lotus but it was too dark. We also thought about the restaurant where we got engaged but I think they can fit 30 max and we would have to rent the whole thing out.

I'm not sure about the number of people each holds as I never called around for 40 people. However, you might try BRGuest restaurants (Ruby Foos, Blue Water Grill, Atlantic Grill, etc. etc.). Everything is on one web site which is something like BRGuest.com. For steak does Angelo & Maxies or Strip House do group dinners? Someone on the WC is having hers at 212 restaurant on the UES - they have their own bar for the party. And someone else on there had theirs at Lansky Lounge and was really pleased.

How about Sparks?? Blue water grill has great food too! I guess it depends what kind of food you would like and how much you want to spend.

la mela is unreal!!!! Marcella, I LOVE that place. I could eat one million calories in about two minutes!!!! YUM!!!!

I would try Amuse on 18th Street. It used to be The Tonic and I know they have a large room upstairs.

I just went to an engagement party at Sage (Park & 25th). The couple had 3 hours of pass hor d'oevres and drinks on a private floor above the restaurant. It was chic yet there was plently of sitting and standing space. The food was pretty good!

I went to a party in a former bank vault at the Blue Water Grill. I think they have another private area available as well. Food is very good.

There are tons of places but it helps if you give an idea of what kind of atmostphere, food, price etc you are looking for
