Rehearsal Dinner question

Rehearsal Dinner question

For anyone who's wed at the Milleridge Inn Cottage & had both the ceremony and reception there (or for anyone who's had a ceremony outside of a house of worship), since we cannot have a rehearsal there, as there's no 'real' chapel one can go to at anytime, does this mean we don't need to throw a rehearsal dinner? I know we can always gather folks pre-wedding to thank them, etc., but does anyone know if it is a no-no to not have one, as there is no rehearsal? Apparently, all is done the morning of the wedding, through the maitre d'...

Grazie!

Re: Rehearsal Dinner question

Thanks for your reply. The Milleridge books something almost every night. Each year they tend to have some function the night before Thanksgiving and they have something booked the Fri. after Thanksgiving (our wedding's the Sun. after the holiday). Although Mon.-Wed. that week aren't yet booked, they probably will be and we can't override that. I'm not worried about having the space, mostly wondering if it's necessary to host a dinner if there's no rehearsal. I don't think we could get folks out there on a Monday or Tues. night...but I could be wrong.

Re: Rehearsal Dinner question

It isn't neccessary to have a reharsal dinner. To me part of the reason for having it is to thank the people for coming out early for the reharsal & to feed them since these things are usually around diiner time.

the otehr half of it is jsut to get together with OOT folks and the bridal party to give out gifts & realx & visit with peopel.

As you said you can still do that, but it can me more casual.

You could not do anything at all, but then I guess you'd give gifts the morning of? as you get ready?

Re: Rehearsal Dinner question

Annette...I got married at the Milleridge on a Sunday so we were not able to have a rehearsal at the Milleridge. We had it the morning of...practically right before we all walked down the aisle.

We had a pre-wedding celebration the night before...it was supposed to be at the Maine Maid Inn...but because of the 22' of snow that fell that weekend...Maine Maid cancelled on us and we wound up having it at the restaurant of the hotel we were staying at.

I'm not sure if there is any etiquette to not having a rehearsal dinner if there is no actual rehearsal...I just looked at it as another reason for everyone to get together and party.

Re: Rehearsal Dinner question

I'm at the Thatched Cottage and I had a similar problem..they said we could only have a rehearsal in the week or early on Friday..so we are doing it at 1pm the friday before the Sunday wedding. No biggy...except that the woman I was dealing with kept insisting that a rehearsal isn't necessary. I'm customizing a ceremony...so IT really is important! I'm an actress, so I know the difference that one rehearsal can make.

If you can't do it there, mabye meet in a large area somewhere, a park or big room and have a rehearsal, just to get the idea. Then have the dinner anyway!

When I was 14, my uncle got married, and had me play the organ for his ceremony. I was so happy, but my Aunt didn't want to do a rehearsal...so I was SO NERVOUS, i started playing the wedding march in the wrong key! It sounded like the Adam's Family Wedding!
It's not fair to the people involved to make them 'wing it'

Well, you're all marvelous for responding. Thank you. I guess we'll figure out what we'll do and know that no matter what we decide, it's all good.

Can one reply to just one post here or it's only a reply to all. I ask b/c I must say to RobNette that you and I are both named Annette and both actresses getting married verrry soon. Congrats to you and your supportive family! Mine's an interfaith ceremony, too... Congrats to all, really. - Annette

Re: Rehearsal Dinner question

We're not having a 'rehearsal' before so we're having a thank you dinner with just our parents and our bridal party the week before the wedding. FH and I will just have a pizza party at our house and give out gifts. We'll probably just wind up hanging out drinking with our friends, which is why we're doing it a week before the wedding, not the night before.

Re: Rehearsal Dinner question

I did not have a rehearsal dinner. We did a rehearsal right before the ceremony along with the photographer who snapped polaroids during the rehearsal so she could set up the shots she wanted. I thought that was pretty cool. It gave me the chance to look at the scene before the actual photos.

The next day we held a brunch at the hotel and invited all OOT and the bridal party.
