rehearsal dinner - who pays?

rehearsal dinner - who pays?

FH and I are paying for our ENTIRE wedding ourselves (inc. the bridal shower, i kid you not). So FILs went to a christening recently at a local restaurant and when they came home suggested FH and I have the rehearsal dinner there. FH and I were discussing it yesterday and I mentioned that I was under the impress the groom's parents pay for the rehearsal dinner. FH agreed but we both aren't sure how to brooch the subj.

how are you girls handling your rehearsal dinners? if parents are paying for it, how was it discussed?

My FH's parents have helped out very little with other expenses. We just called them up and basically flat out asked them for help with the Rehearsal Dinner. We told them we were keeping it small and it was only for bridal party and immediate family, so they agreed.

good luck

keeping it small isn't an option. that's our problem... sorta.. we have a LARGE bridal party (25 people). so for the BP, our immediate families and the ceremony participants its about 59 people.

hmmmm.....
Do you or FH (maybe he should do it if he's close with his parents) should just explain to them that you guys are putting out alot of $$, what could they possibly help you out with. You can always present to them other restaurants that may be cheaper as well.

FMIL offered to pay for RD, i am still including it in our budget, because she is not the greatest when it comes to money and FBIL is always in some horrible financial need and she always bails him out, even though i think he makes more money than she does

That's a tough one! My fils aren't doing ANYTHING for the wedding except pay for the rehearsal dinner. Thankfully they said they were taking care of it so we didn't have to worry.

Maybe you could say something like we want to start planning the rd but traditionally fh parents usually pay. If you were planning on that, we didn't want to step on your toes. Could that work?
