Rehearsal - let's chat about my drama and take a little poll.
I need 05'er input on this one...you ladies know how to think things out!
I cannot have a rehearsal at Raphael the day before the wedding. It was part of the understanding when we booked the place, and at the time, I was ok with it. Now, I am starting to get really nervous becasue of the type of ceremony we are having.
I have 3 of my friends singing for the BM's entrace, my entrance, and then for the processional. Their songs are cut and timed to the approximate length of time of our walk down the staircase and out to the vineyard. We will be having vocal rehearsals prior to the wedding, so they know exactly what to do.
The woman at Raphael assures me we will be able to 'run through' everything the day of the wedding an hour before the ceremony (we are seeing each other for pics before the ceremony anyway, so this is not an issue.) She is totally competant, does this all the time, and will basically just gather everyone up and show them what to do and where to stand.
As a backup: I am considering having a rehearsal the night before anyway, in the backyard of the house my parents are renting out on Orient Point. This will be somewhat of a haul for alot of people, an inconvenience, and we wouldn't get the exact timing of things down anyway. But, it would be a rehearsal nonetheless, an an opportunity to group up and touch base.
What would you do? Keep in mind that almost everyone involved is a performer - so they are comfortable with being in front of people and taking direction quickly. The stress here is mine!
thanks ladies.

Have the rehearsal in the backyard - if nothing else, it'll help settle you down. The singers can practice the songs and everyone can gather together and have a good time. The practice at Raphael before the ceremony can be used for timing and precision.

Well, I definitely think you should have some kind of rehearsal. I think it will make you feel a lot more confident and calm on the big day.
I voted for the night before in the back yard. I don't think you need extra stuff to worry about on your wedding day and.....if you do it the day of when the actual ceremony is performed, it will be like 'didn't we just do this'??

I might be the ONLY one to vote for no rehearsal...and would be willing to change my vote if you are really THAT nervous about it. I was in a wedding several years ago that had a small bridal party and we rehearsed right before the ceremony and it was fine. As you said, the majority of the people involved are not the 'nervous' type and probably don't need to go through everything. I kind of feel like any small glitches would just add to the story of your wedding day. But, I'm weird that way!

I would have it in the backyard. I am sure it will all fall into place. Good Luck

I vote for the quickie rehearsal before the ceremony. It sounds like it will be really inconvenient for people to go to a semi-rehearsal on an earlier day.
good luck!

We are having a very simple ceremony, but I want to have a rehearsal anyway, just to feel what it's going to be like the next day.

Have the rehearsal the day before. You'll feel better.
I am having three singers performing during my ceremony. All are musical theatre folks who are used to performing, but the timing is of the essence to make the processional work out right.
It may be somewhat inconvenient, but I think that any pro will welcome the opportunity to run through the material and get a rough approximation of the timing. I have sung at a bunch of friends weddings-- some with rehearsal, some without-- and I would always welcome the opprtunity to have a rehearsal, even if it isn't the perfect, ideal representation of the actual performance setting/circumstances.

Poor Rye! You sound so stressed.
I think is will be fine either way. Could you have a rehersal even a couple of weeks before at another location? Don't put too much pressure on yourself. Your friends are used to taking stage directions at the last minute.

Me too...I was in weddings where they did this and it worked out fine....but if you are really nervous, do whatever you need to do.

I voted for the quickie rehearsal an hour before the ceremony. Here's why. Having the rehearsal in a place that's different from the actual location will, IMHO, kind of throw off the flow and 'recall' that performers use. Plus, it is a haul for everyone anyway.
Keep in mind that a quick rehearsal is better than none at all. I'd rather rehearse where something's going to actually be. Also, if anyone has any questions about something in particular at the location itself, you're already there and the staff can accutately answer.

i would ask the other people in your wedding party how they feel. If they wont be able to make it then there is your answer right there. And with you knowing that its far and inconvienient, im sure will understand. But i would ask them. who knows maybe they are all nervous and would like to have a rehersal.

All really good responses, thank you.
I am going to talk to my BP and get their input, and then maybe write out a PRO and CON list before I make a final decision.
